Few lads on here said he was going to be a spurs player by the end of the week haha

Well done Benteke, now get rid of your agent and become a legend at Villa Park

baffling question right now for me is not about the clause, but how much we are gonna pay him per week, if u think about it, this is actually a really shrewd move by his agent in a sense to rattle villa, i would like to think lambert whispered in bentekes ear but the other part of me says we gave the baby his bottle......

dont get me wrong, im very happy hes still here but at what price would be very interesting

I think credit has to go to Paul Lambert, Paul Faulkner and Randy Lerner for not allowing either Spurs or 'player power' to bully around Aston Villa. The way the club approached it from day 1 was fantastic, they released a statement as soon as it had broke that he requested a transfer. They stated IF he leaves then he leaves on our terms, our asking price and they didn't allow any media pressure to force there hand. Onto his new deal - yes he might have a minimum fee clause in there but I bet your bottom dollar it's no worse than our current £25-£30m asking price. Some have said on twitter but if he has another good season and World Cup he would be worth more - who cares? We would have another year our of him and still a very healthy profit!

my dad said only last night that a guy he works with (never far off the money tbf) said this might happen and a minimum fee clause added, dont quote me but the figure he said was £30m.

i do agree that we shouldnt really care what might happen in 12 months and enjoy the journey, i do also think that wouldnt be a bad return, BUT if he has another storming season and helps Belgium into the business end of the world cup, then £30m will be a bargain for someone... say he helps us into at least europa, scores 25+ league goals and gets the golden boot on the way to helping Belgium win the world cup (not impossible)? i just hope we havent created an easy exit for next summer, in a couple of years this guy could be seen as 1 of the best strikers in world football.

Shrewd move and proud of the Club. As has been said he's only had one season and could have been a one season wonder. Then again, 23 goals is a hell of a lot, and it's not like we scored a ton of goals last season! Very happy about the move and not really pissed off about Benteke. There was the case in Downing where he was leaving period. What these players do to get more money isn't usually a problem for me. Demanding to leave after only one season at the club is a bit tough to swallow, but he made his point, got his money, and is back in a Villa kit.

Anyone suddenly feeling much better about this season! Hell, if I didn't have a jack-ass President who keeps reaching in my pocket for higher taxes I would find a way to make it over for three straight season!

Very nice indeed, with finnbogason, kiyotake - we could really push forward and move.

What a team we would have, 6 renewals, deadwood sold and wages cut, we're going in the right direction..

Next top, NIKE back for sponsor please or Adidas!

Hopefully his agent has been paid off and sent packing, maybe we'll be able to take the prem by storm this season.

Lambert has shown that he knows what he's doing when it comes to dealing wih players and building a TEAM, and by the looks of it maybe Sylla played a part in this which only reiterate's the sense of togetherness at the club which IMO is one of the reason the MON team used to do so well.

This could also be a turning point for the club as a whole, of you look at the bigger picture, this is the first time since Barry that we've managed to keep hold of a want away player, maybe this indicates a difference in the clubs stance on player power??

And about time too
