  1. I havent been on lately or i would have posted this thread sooner,im suprised there wasnt a thread already on here as he's the most iconic footballer in the world, when you think of the greatest Maradona is the first name that springs too mind. 2. I love the fact we have a Villa fan as manager along with the new owners, it really has repaired the gap between the club and it's supporters that had become so toxic over the last decade or so. But it is not enough for Dean to be a fan to be Villa manager, he has to be judged on his performance as manager and if he fails in his objectives then Villa fan or not he has to go. So when Dean took over from Bruce, his job was to build us up like Brentford and get us promoted on a much reduced budget. I doubt anybody at the club realistically thought he would get us up that first season, but he did,

  3. How bizarre, to not want to qualify for europe. Do we think West Ham fans are hoping and praying their results drop off to avoid the disappointment of having to play AC Milan, Roma, Ajax etc next season? If we qualified for europe would we not look to bring new players in to supplement the current squad to deal with the additional rigors? Doesn't qualification raise Villa's profile around the world, does it not make us a more attractive proposition to players we target, does it not introduce a new revenue stream into the clubs transfer coffers, does it not provide Grealish with

  5. Without a doubt yes. Like everyone I have been extremely disappointed with recent performances and results and I don't agree with the ahead of schedule or better then we thought we would do argument a reason to excuse our recent dreadful form. We must strive for better then that. However, Smith has done a terrific job and I think it would be absurd to even think about a change. Every time Smith's teams have had a major fault he's addressed it and come back stronger like the huge defensive improvement after the break last season. The team has improved every season and we can't b

  6. I don't think there is any doubt that Smith is taking us forward. I'm as frustrated as anyone with our form since the COVID outbreak, and his decisions at times, but the progress this season compared to last is massive. He took us over when we were mid table in the championship. Within a couple of years we are beating the champions 7-2, playing some of the best football I've seen us play in my lifetime and actually being in the mix for a European spot come March. All the talk seems to be that we plan on significantly improving the first team again this Summer. Should that be true, t

  26. May I just say I said Barkley was a ' sensational signing ' when the deal was announced. Secondly I find winning Villa far more enjoyable than losing Villa. Brilliant result. UTV

  27. EPL (Premier League), Sunday 04/10/2020 : Aston Villa 7-2 Liverpool So much for the cautious draw ... maybe I should predict one every game ! I followed this game three-ways, Radio commentary, SSN Live Commentary and my Twitter feed. So for the record our goalscorers were Watkins (3), Grealish (2), McGinn and Barkley. An excellent result which could have seen even more goals. Now I hear commentators saying this result is a 'freak' ... the only thing possibly 'freakish' is the high scoreline, but this result is the sort of result we should expect from AVFC. Ours is no tinpot diddy team

  28. Benrahma?, I'd like to see him sign but think Brentford need to lower their expectations regarding the fee. I'd prefer Harry Wilson as the additional attacker. But definitely need to add some better quality on the bench.

  30. 24/09/2020 : Stu, I have noticed a display inconsistency with posts, it seems to be linked to the 'go to the first unread post' function. When I click on the unread post button it goes to the post, but the post is shown half-screen, left justified. If I go straight to a thread and open any post, read or unread, within the thread, then the display is full, i.e., across the whole page. Half-screen is the format used for posts shown in our activity, where they are right justified (and that is no problem there). Ha! - I have just been to my activity page and our posts are show

  32. There comes a point when you have to stand firm and try and progress as a club and keep your best players, delighted with the ambition shown by the club. We must make some progress this season and not got involved in any relegation battle, really excited for the season to kick off. Everything is here for us as a club to go on and progress

  33. It should be nothing less than restoring AVFC to its No:1 position in English football. If that is not the ambition then it will not be good enough.

  34. Absolutely, we seem to be 'penny pinching' unfortunately as the transfer window nears it's end prices will only go up not down. If we have identified a player we need to pay the price and get it done, or move on. WATKINS & BENRAHMA should have been done weeks ago, if we really are interested in signing them. Then the 'need time to gel' excuses will get rolled out..........AGAIN.

  35. Time to keep things steady, no major changes. We have the spine of a good team and good character as demonstrated. 4 or 5 good signings in the right areas and I think we will be fine next season. Smith deserves full support next season and Suso leaving would appear to be a nod the recruitment wasn't quite up to scratch like the glaring deficiency we were left with upfront. I think the break showed we shouldn't write some of these players off. Luiz and Konsa were much improved and a player like Wesley may still prove a good player. Big problems were addressed over the break,

  37. Less than two years ago we were sat here discussing the possibility of bankruptcy, winding up orders and relegation to league 1 or worse. We all know the detail of what has happened in the months since, why we found ourselves promoted and barely able to field a team. The foundations are taking place for something that we can finally build a decent team on, no bomb squad, no ageing players that are no longer first choice drawing huge salaries, just a group of young players, rapidly assembled who will hopefully get better.

  38. I agree Dimitri and have created the thread for Season 2020-2021. As the 2020-2021 Season is getting underway it makes sense to open it now. All remaining games for Season 2019-2020 are to be posted in this 2019-2020 thread, Scottish FA Cup Semi-Finals and Final and Rangers' Euro matches (at least one, anyway !).

  40. Absolutely, Bruce was hammered for performances like that, not necessarily wrongly. We've been naive at times this season but now we are surrendering any kind of battle before we take to the pitch expecting to soak up pressure something which isn't playing to this teams strength.
