In the penultimate game of the WSL season, Aston Villa Women saw themselves travelling to Crawley to face Brighton at Broadfield Stadium. With a 13:00 kick-off on Saturday after a late change to game time to prevent a fixture clash with the men’s team. News broke earlier this week that manager Carla Ward will be stepping down at the end of the season, surely the ladies will be looking to end the season strongly. Villa were looking to do the league double over Brighton. In the last league game between these two sides, Villa came away 1-0 winners with Adriana…
In the final round of the WSL season before the April international break Villa were set to face Leicester at Bescott. With the previous fixture ending in a 1-0 win for Villa, the girls were looking to put in a better performance in this match and pose more of a threat this time round against one of our closest rivals in the league. Leicester will be looking to put a controversial week behind them after their manager Willie Kirk was sacked for being deemed to have broken the team’s code of conduct after he was accused of having a relationship…
The Aston Villa Women returned to WSL action as they were hosts to Arsenal at Villa Park. It was the third time the two sides had met this season with the previous two encounters ending in wins for the Gunners. Carla Ward would have been hoping for a better performance after their recent heavy defeat in the Conti Cup Semi-Final. Ward was without a number of her first-team players after Daphne Van Domselaar was recently ruled out for the remainder of the season with a hip injury. Kirsty Hanson who had suffered a calf injury in the Conti Cup Semi-final…
Aston Villa Women returned to action this weekend following a weekend off due to being knocked out of the FA Cup. Villa were hoping to continue their point-scoring tally as of recently and gain a much-needed win against Tottenham at Gaughan Group Stadium in Leyton East London. In the reverse fixture at Bescott Villa fell to a 2-4 loss against the Lilywhites, and will be hoping to correct that this time around. Villa were once again without the suspended Rachel Daly who is serving the 2nd game in a 3-match ban while Anna Leat is still on international duty with…
Aston Villa women travelled to Crawley to take on Brighton at the Broadfield Stadium last night in the quarter-finals of the Conti-Cup. Villa reached this stage last season and lost out to Arsenal who went on to win the competition, so they were hoping to go at least one step further this year. Villa were without the injured trio of Dan Turner, Lucy Parker and Lucy Staniforth. Ward was also without the cup-tied trio of Freya Gregory, Noelle Maritz and our latest new signing Miri Taylor. Anna Leat is currently away on International duty with New Zealand and the late…
Aston Villa women have announced the deadline day signing of Miri Taylor on a short loan until the end of the season from Liverpool. The 23-year-old midfielder started her youth career at Chelsea making her senior debut in 2016 at 16 years old before moving to Arsenal for a year. She then travelled to America to go to college where she played college football for Hofstra Pride from 2018-2021. In her final year of college, she won multiple awards including being part of the United Soccer Coaches All-America first team and being named CAA Attacking Player of the Year. As…
After the controversial 7-0 win over Sunderland in the Conti Cup mid-week the tribunal has finally decided an outcome for Villa on Monday. Villa seemingly got off lightly and was awarded the best-case scenario after fielding an ineligible player after bringing on Noelle Maritz at half-time. Villa were forced to forfeit the match which saw Sunderland go through as group winners after being awarded the 3 points. Villa however get to remain in the competition as they progress as one of the best place runners-up after a goals-per-game ratio saw them place higher than the other 2nd place teams apart…
In the return of the WSL after the midweek cup fixtures. Villa travelled to Manchester to face Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village. In the reverse fixture on the first game of the season, the ladies were unlucky to lose to United at Villa Park with the visitors scoring an injury-time winner to beat the 10 players of Villa after Kirsty Hanson got sent off for a late challenge. With Villa winning their last 2 league games and Man United losing their previous 2 it was all to play for in this game and looked to be an exciting fixture.…
A glaring administrative error could mean Aston Villa Women will face sanctions which could include expulsion from the Conti-Cup. Noëlle Maritz joined Aston Villa this month from Arsenal and had already featured in the competition this season for her former club meaning she was cup-tied but was introduced mid-way through the game. It was the final game of the Group stages as Carla Ward’s side travelled up North to take on Sunderland at the Eppleton Colliery Football Ground. A place in the quarter-final was at stake as both sides could win the group with Villa needing to avoid defeat while…
Aston Villa Women returned to Super League action for the first time in 2024 as they made the short trip to Burton to take on Leicester City at the Pirelli Stadium. Supporters looked at this as a must-win game and an opportunity to kick-start what has largely been a disappointing campaign. Villa were able to come out on top on both occasions last season and would have been hoping for the same this time around. Unsurprisingly, Carla Ward opted to make changes from the side that lost last weekend to Everton in the FA Cup. First-choice keeper Daphne Van Domselaar…
