After a disappointing draw against Brentford on Wednesday evening, the Villans will be hoping to stop throwing away leads. They have the chance to get back to winning ways when they travel to Ipswich tomorrow. Jonathan Kodjia’s great strike gave the hosts the lead in the first half on Wednesday night. After the break, however, the Villa boys seemed to sit back and invite pressure. Inevitably, the Bees scored a late goal to ensure that they shared the spoils. With the games coming thick and fast, Roberto Di Matteo’s men will travel east in search of three points. Ipswich Town…
After the rather dull international break, it’s now time to turn our attention back to all things claret and blue. News broke mid-week that young starlet Jack Grealish had signed a new four year deal with the club, which is fantastic for him and for Aston Villa. Hailed as a die-hard Villa fan, the status of ‘club legend’ is obtainable for Grealish if he continues to progress. The disappointing loss to Bristol City two weeks ago was something of an unexpected result, especially as the Villa boys had started the game so well. Jack Grealish capped off a fine Villa…
Last week’s battling draw against Derby County demonstrated to the Villa faithful that this team is showing signs of strength and character. Although the Villans had the better chances and dominated the first half, it was unfortunate that Roberto Di Matteo’s men couldn’t find the breakthrough, despite having numerous attempts on goal. A mixture of good saves, hitting the woodwork and a goal-line clearance were enough to ensure that the teams went away with a point each. Di Matteo’s Villains have started the season in indifferent form, managing just the one win from their first four matches, coupled with an…
Roberto Di Matteo was a happy man when he recorded his first competitive win as a manager of Villa at the weekend, with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Rotherham United. It was also Aston Villa’s first league win in more than six months. Next on the agenda is Huddersfield Town’s visit to Villa Park tonight. Nicknamed ‘the Terriers’, Huddersfield Town can boast a 100% winning record in the Championship so far this season. After winning both their games, the Terriers currently sit third in the table. Match details Venue: Villa Park, Birmingham Date: Tuesday 16th August 2016 Kick-off: 19:45 After…
After Wednesday’s humiliating League Cup exit against League Two side Luton Town, the Villans will be looking to send a message to the rest of the league by putting in a good performance against Rotherham United. Already labelled as a ‘must win game’ for the Villans, Roberto Di Matteo’s men must make sure that a ‘losing mentality’ doesn’t haunt them as it did last season. The Millers lived a dangerous life last season in the Championship, escaping relegation only after Neil Warnock took the helm. Rotherham United looked dead and buried, six points adrift of safety in the relegation places,…
Despite Sunday’s loss to Sheffield Wednesday in the league, the mood in the Villa camp is still positive, as are the fans. One of the good things about being in the Championship is that you get to see your team play more often because of the fixture list. Following the league game on Sunday, the Villans will travel down to Kenilworth Road to face Luton Town, currently plying their trade in League Two, for the first round of the EFL Cup. Match details Venue: Kenilworth Road Date: Wednesday 10th August 2016 Kick-off: 19:45 Live on Sky Sports 1 Team news:…
Aston Villa’s new life in the Championship will finally begin tomorrow as the side travels to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday. After months of rumours and speculation, Aston Villa was finally taken over by Dr. Tony Xia’s Recon Group from China. Since then a lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to hopefully ensure the Villans will be well equipped to aim for promotion this season. Since we got relegated from the Premier League, Roberto Di Matteo was announced as the new manager. His arrival only five weeks ago meant that he has had relatively little time with…
This roller coaster of a season will finally end today. The Villans head to north London to face Arsenal on the final day of the 2015-16 Premier League season, which has been characterised by more spills than thrills for the B6 brigade. Should Tottenham Hotspur lose against an already relegated Newcastle United today, the chance to finish second in the league is still technically obtainable for Arsene Wenger’s men. Match details Venue: The Emirates, London Date: Sunday 15th May 2016 Kick-off: 15:00 Referee: Mark Clattenburg Team news: Caretaker manager Eric Black told the press that defenders Ciaran Clark and Alan Hutton…
The Villans scored two goals last week against a Watford side that wasn’t at its best but still ended up losing. Troy Deeney bagged a brace at the death to ensure that the Villans left Vicarage Road with no points. Despite not playing too badly, the typical collapse was representative of how Aston Villa Football Club’s season has gone. Next on the agenda is a visit from Newcastle United to Villa Park. The Magpies are in trouble themselves; they are currently one point ahead of Norwich and Sunderland but have played a game more than their relegation rivals. Currently in…
Despite Ashley Westwood scoring a brace last weekend, Aston Villa lost to Southampton in a surprisingly decent game. Although the Saints ran riot in a 2-4 victory, it was the defensive lapses from the Villa defenders which ultimately led to the loss rather then the Saints playing us off the park. Despite the result, some players still showed some bottle, as the scoreline suggested. This week, the Villans will travel down to Vicarage Road to face Watford. The Hornets have been a bit of a surprise package this season as many expected them to struggle and clsssed them as probable…
