My name's Dan Bardell. I'm 29 and I sit in the Upper Holte with my dad. This is our 22nd year as season ticket holders. My favourite ever players are Ian Taylor, Thomas Hitzlsperger, Gareth Barry, Olof Mellberg, Martin Laursen and Stan Petrov. My current favorites are Westwood, Clark and Grealish. I was sorry to see Rémi Garde leave us. He certainly didn’t make us any better but, in my opinion, he definitely didn’t make us any worse. A manager has once again carried the can for the club’s collective failures and we have been destined for the Championship for the last three or four seasons. Sooner or later, someone has to take a look at all these failed managers, who were by no means perfect, and see that a simple lack of desire and ability on the pitch has hurt us just as much as any managerial failing. This season…
Steve McClaren should thank the lord for Aston Villa Football Club for reasons other than the fact that he was due to take over the reins at Villa Park in 2011 before fan pressure saw Randy Lerner renege on offering him the job. McClaren would undoubtedly have gone on to age horrifically like Paul Lambert, leaving B6 with his managerial reputation in tatters. Apart from my prediction of what would have occurred with McClaren in charge at Villa Park, he should be grateful that the Villans have been in the Premier League this season. If it wasn’t for our disaster of a…
Last night brought more misery to Villa Park. Never mind a seventy-fourth minute walkout, a fifth minute walkabout led to Funes Mori being left unmarked, which enabled him to put the visitors ahead. At that moment, I knew that the game was over: this Aston Villa side has not come from behind to win a game all season.Everyone knew the second goal was going to come. It did. The third one was, unsurprisingly, down to diabolical defending. We will never forget this season, for all the wrong reasons. There are a large number of personnel to blame for ruining this…
Failure has been far too apparent at our club during the last five to six years. In fact, it has become something that we as fans have had to get used to. At the moment, our club is a laughing stock, rooted to the bottom of the table and with only three Premier League wins all season. Years of failure are finally catching up with us. Realistically, relegation has been coming for years. I just want this sorry season to end so relegation can be confirmed and I can spend the summer accepting the fact that Aston Villa Football Club…
I have become fairly resilient as a Villa fan over the last five seasons. Most of the time I feel like there is nothing else my club can put me through that will hurt me any more than I am. However bad things have gotten and, let’s face it, things have been horrific, I never thought I would witness the kind of thing I saw on Sunday. It was an unforgettable Valentine’s Day, for all the wrong reasons, for Aston Villa fans. I can almost tolerate players not being blessed with the ability levels we’d like to see, although the…
Every week my team seems to find a new way to be defeated. I’m struggling to come up with new ways to to sum up what a miserable existence it is being an Aston Villa fan. Class may be permanent. Form may be temporary. All the same, this temporary misery feels permanent. The truth is that, up until Ayew’s moment of madness and subsequent sending off, we were looking good. Denied a blatant penalty by the buffoon that is Jon Moss, we were causing the Hammers problems. Even the much maligned Agbonlahor looked lively. However, we didn’t score when on…
Silly season is in full swing. The January transfer window is much maligned, although the sheer lunacy of it all does make it interesting. Garde is set to leave any signings late, just as the club left hitting any sort of decent form. Given our predicament, I would have expected someone in by now because the games keep drifting away and an escape looks less likely with each passing week. The Villans would need a hero to help them to stay up now, someone capable of scoring goals at an exceptional rate in a relatively poor side. Yesterday, the rumour appeared that all Villa fans have dreamed of:…
With Mark Bunn dislodging Brad Guzan from the Aston Villa first team, Guzan found himself on FA Cup duty last night, which I’m sure was a further dent to his ego. The American will also not be happy to learn that we are apparently closing in on Croatian giant Lovre Kalinić from Hajduk Split. Garde certainly did not deny it after the Wycombe victory. It has been apparent for a while that we have needed a new goalkeeper. Guzan has regressed over the last few years, in my opinion. He fully deserved his player of the year award in 2012-13; I’ll…
A win! An actual win. Aston Villa won a game of football, in the Premier League no less. I repeat, we won a game of football. This is not a drill. After just over five months of hurt in the League, the Villans finally registered three points. Villa Park hadn’t seen a home win in the Premier League since April 2015. This was long overdue. As is usually the case with Aston Villa Football Club, there are plenty of talking points. At least there are some positives to discuss for once. Bunn rises to the occasion Although not particularly troubled,…
In a season that has only really contained lows, the Villans managed to plummet to new levels of despair on Saturday. Losing to Sunderland, a poor side, is unacceptable at the best of times. To lose the way we did on Saturday, in the predicament the club is in, just beggars belief. The players really do find new ways to disappoint fans each week. Just when you think you can’t feel any worse about the Villans, another “must win” game rolls along and they as good as beat themselves. The last few years will not be looked back on with…
