What a rollercoaster of a year it has been for Aston Villa. It was only a few months ago that we were fighting for our lives in a relegation battle, but now we find ourselves 5th in the Premier League with 2 games in hand over many sides. My highlight of 2020 comes in the form of our away form and how it has improved. Last season we won just 2 away games in the whole campaign, with the victories coming at Norwich and Burnley. This season, we equalled that after only playing 2 away games at Fulham and Leicester…

After what was a heartbreaking defeat on Sunday afternoon at the hands of Tottenham, many fans have taken to social media and stressed their worry about starting with Danny Drinkwater in the middle of the park. Other names are being mentioned including former Barnsley man, Conor Hourihane. The Premier League winner was signed in January on loan from Chelsea, to help fill a void left by the long term injury to super John McGinn – but fans have begun to critique the midfielder based on his first few performances in the villa strip. Although the 29-year-old hadn’t played regular first-team…

If you had offered me a point before the game against Arsenal, I would have taken it in an absolute heartbeat. However, after being 1-2 up until the 81st minute and arguably being the better side over the course of the 90 minutes, it’s a bitter pill to swallow when we walk away from North London with no share of the points. But we must look at the positives and not dwell on the negatives. Unfortunately, my first visit to the Emirates didn’t finish with a happy ending. There were plenty of positives to take from the trip to North…

After our promotion to the Premier League in may, Dean Smith was given the PIN number to a very large bank account. With the help of ‘Suso’ he has not been afraid to utilise it. At the time of writing this, 12 new players have been welcomed to Aston Villa. There are still rumours that indicate that our business isn’t finished, just yet. Many have said we are doing a Fulham but are they right to say this? Of course, as long as social media exists, opposition fans will have their say on other clubs business. Fulham had a similar…

When Villa signed the injury prone, out of favour defender Tyrone Mings on loan in January, no-one could have foreseen the impact he would have. He has been a fantastic addition to Dean Smith’s squad as he helps us get promoted. The 26-year-old came straight into the starting line-up and was an instant success. The impact he had on our defence was there for all to see. We were leaking goals with a James Chester and Tommy Elphick partnership. Chester was playing through a career-threatening injury which didn’t help the situation. Aston Villa looked far more rigid and we stopped…

Jed Steer has been rewarded for his efforts in helping Villa’s return to the Premiership with a new contract. The goalkeeper saved two penalties in the Playoff Semi-final against West Brom has signed a four-year deal until 2023. Stere is one of four goalkeepers in the first team at Villa Park. If rumours are to believed, that could soon be three with Lovre Kalinic being linked with a move to Nantes. The other two keepers at the club are Orjan Nyland and Matija Sarkic. The later is still young and has a bright future ahead of him while Nyland picked…

It appears that the shackles are finally off, following years of decline under previous ownership. It was a tough time, watching on as our beloved club slipped out of the Premier League’s tender grasp and into the jaws of the Championship. The three years outside English football’s top flight now seem completely insignificant. I am sure I am not alone when I say there are some things I will miss about the Championship, including the frequency of games. Games on Saturday, Tuesday and then Saturday made for weeks of nerves and excitement. It will be rare that Villa will play…

As we approach our first season back in the Premiership, one of the positions we need to strengthen is the striker position. Tammy Abraham occupied this position during our promotion campaign. During a loan spell from Chelsea, Abraham netted 26 times for Aston Villa. Chelsea have reportedly put a £25million price tag on the 21-year-old striker. The question I have for you is, Is Tammy the answer to the question Aston Villa are asking? Championship goals Let’s start with the obvious, 26 goals in the championship is no mean feat – especially when Tammy spent 2 chunks of the season…

It is almost 72 hours since Aston Villa won arguably the biggest game of their recent history. Reality still hasn’t set in yet that Villa are once again a Premier League football club. 98 hard fought minutes against Frank Lampard’s Derby County was what it took to regain our top-flight status. As expected, Wembley was a cauldron of noise. Villa fans were singing and in a party atmosphere all game. The fan parks and pubs around the West side of the stadium were rocking by 10 am. Villa fans know how to make an atmosphere, regardless of whether it’s Wigan…
