Villa, Boring? Never!

Say what you want about being a Villa supporter, but there’s never a dull moment, is there!

After an exciting transfer window so far, earlier this month our optimism gauge dropped down a level or two, after shockingly, Benteke handed in a transfer request after a great debut season.

A week goes by, and after we accepted the fact he was probably going to be snapped up by Spurs, disappointment turned into joy after Benteke withdrew his transfer request and signed a new deal, after a ‘lengthy’ meeting with Paul Lambert.

Now, we all know the potential Benteke has. If he continues to progress the way he has shown in the last 12 months, he could be a great striker in the years to come. We know what he is capable of, and we’ve seen that he is a match winner. Unfortunately, he probably won’t be here beyond next season – but – if he is picked up by a big club, that means he would have done his job and fired in the goals for us and put us in a good position in the league.

But let’s forget about what could happen in the distant future, and look forward to the near future.  The consensus is that we as fans cannot wait for the season to begin. The opening fixtures look tough, Arsenal away and Liverpool at home, but this is the Premier League, and as the ol’ saying goes – there are no easy games in this league.

Preseason seems to be going well; we drew every game on the German tour, and now we’ve got good, testing games to play back on home soil. Another draw on Saturday against Wycombe, but there were a lot of positives to take from the game.

Just how good was that free kick by Ashley Westwood? Great bit of thinking there by the midfielder!

I’ll leave you with a picture I found on Twitter, when Benteke had submitted his Transfer Request. Made me chuckle!
