The New Breed Of Lions

Tonev, Okore, Bacuna,Luna,Steer,Helenius … Who cares if we’ve never heard of them, or heard or know little about them? Who’d heard of Benteke this time last year? It’s exciting, times at Villa Park I have experienced some dismal days as a fan recently but, everything is heading in the right direction now.

Tonev- I have watched him a couple of times  in big matches where he has played for Lech Poznan he is intuitive and capable of using both feet something most fans are not used to with Gabby and Albrighton  unable to do this . Tonev is capable of a lot but i do hope he does not turn out like fellow national compatriot  Martin Petrov who promised a lot and delivered nothing in the Premier League.

Okore- Benteke in disguise?? He is built like a good old fashioned defender but, pacey very impressive from what I have seen of him and, at the age of 20 he has been capped by Denmark and has Champions League experience not bad really. Okore will bring much needed competition to the defensive ranks. Overall he could go down in Villa folklore like fellow Scandinavians Laursen and Melberg.

Bacuna- I really  rate this guy from what i have seen in Dutch football he is something special the ability he shows grasps the imagination on what a great player Bacuna could turn out to be. Confident and powerful but, may take time to settle in the top flight . I believe he is a real asset to the Club he is a Dutch U21 International and played over 100 games for his former club “FC Groningen” .Overall he is brilliant but a player we may struggle to keep hold of in future years . Bacuna was quoted to saying to the Birmingham Mail, “ I’m going to try and make a lot of goals and be a fan favourite.” this impresses me and, many as he shows he wants to be someone.

Luna- When i think of Spanish players I think of the passing capability most of them show they all have an ability to play football the right way and Lamberts way. He recently said, “I really can’t wait to get started. I have a great expectation coming here.” He is ambitious Villa fans only want ambitious players and he is this. Luna seems too weak at the moment. Yes he whips in a good cross but, he looks weak defensively and looks like he needs to get on the weights this summer to be able to cope with an influx of physical football next term.

Helenius- I’m unsure on players above 6ft 3″  as  they’re usually  lanky and, have no ability with the ball on the ground. But, from what I have witnessed Helenius seems a player against my own stereotype on tall players. But, then again I cannot judge my stereotype much as Christian Benteke totally proved me and many others  wrong last season . In general he is a real prospect as he can play the ball well on the deck but, to me YouTube can make Emile Heskey look a great player.

Steer- A promising young Englishmen who surely will challenge Guzan for the number one shirt one day in the future. He has featured at many levels for England and hopefully on his way to becoming the next Gordon Banks and not the next David James. He commands his area which is important in a modern goalkeeper and is a decent height  at 6ft 2″ . Overall he will not be challenging Brad Guzan yet but, who knows as Lambert must rate him to go back to Norwich to pick him up.

What do you think of Paul Lamberts signings ? Would love to hear from you! UTV!

  1. Good points made! And your knowledge seems to hold no bounds! Keep writing this way and it’s you who will have a positive future!

  2. I do hope none of the new players have outstanding first seasons of the kind Benteke had… that is, if they then act like Benteke and cause all the fans a lot of grief by wanting away in the summer. He’s making me so depressed, I’m beginning to wish his first season hadn’t been quite so sensational!!!!!

  3. I really like tonev I like them all to be honest.happy days for villa 🙂
(alanjc) what do you mean act like benteke he has not done anything wrong.you need to stop believing everything you read in the scum newspapers.if he had not had such a good season we would be playing in a lower leage.there was a few that had a great season specially the second half so with the new batch competing for places the football at villa this year will be far far better..
I think bentake will stay, its exiting times at villa so its an easy smart choice..
cannot wait for the season to start,COMON THE VILLA>>

  4. Excellent research i sincerely hope that they work out and that we hear Hanson say on Motd “you can’t win anything with kids” well written btw look forward to next article

  5. For me the pick of the signings has to be Okore, hes the perfect fit for what we’r trying to acheive. He like all of them will need time to settle in, but its fair to say our defense and defense in midfield was awful at times last season. Cant help but worry if Sylla gets injured..
Luna is a player iv seen a lot of, i think its 50/50 between bennett and himself as to who gets the left back spot next season as defensively hes better, yet offensively pretty poor.
3 more signings please! DM AMC and cover for RB

  6. Helenius main skill is his technical skills with the ball. Of course he has heading qualities as well, given his height. From a Danish guy that watches the Superliga.
