Bayer Leverkusen are set to complete the loan signing of Emi Buendia from Aston Villa.
The Argentine completed his medical today, according to the Athletic and will sign a loan deal until the end of the season with an option to make the deal permanent.
It is thought that both clubs would like the agreement completed before the final Champions League League games tomorrow evening.
The Athletic also reported over the weekend that the former Norwich man had signed an extension to his contract – although this is yet to be confirmed by Aston Villa.
Buendia signed for Villa in a £30 million deal in 2021 from Norwich and has had an up and down time in Claret and Blue. He initially struggled before finding form when Unai Emery arrived but he picked up an ACL injury in the 2023 pre-season.
Since his return this season, he has struggled for game time making just three starts, none in the Premier League.
Buendia was given a start in the defeat at Monaco last week and impressed but Emery refused to rule out a departure when he spoke after the game.
“He has the option to leave but today we needed him. He played fantastic with his quality, his mentality and commitment to the squad.”
