The nominees for the 2024 Yashin Trophy were revealed earlier today. The award recognises the best goalkeepers over the past 12 months with the results revealed at the Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday, 28th October 2024.
Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martínez, who won the trophy in 2023 has once again been nominated. The Argentine has had another fine year helping Villa to qualify for the Champions League and another successful International tournament with his country, this time winning the 2024 Copa America.
There are no other South American nominees with eight nominations coming from Europe. Martínez will come up against Diogo Costa of Portugal and FC Porto, Gianluigi Donnarumma of Italy and Paris SG, Gregor Kobel of Switzerland and Borussia Dortmund, Yann Sommer of Switzerland and Inter Milan, Andriy Lunin of Ukraine and Real Madrid, Mike Maignan of Franxe and AC Milan, Giorgi Mamardashvili of Georgia and Valencia and last but not least Unai Simón of Spain and Athletico Bilbao.
The one African nominee is Ronwen Williams of South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns.
