According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Aston Villa have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign Ian Maatsen on a six-year contract.
Maatsen, spent the second half of last season on loan at Bundesliga giants, Borussia Dortmund where he helped them reach the Champions League Final only to lose 2-0 to Real Madrid.
The German side had a £35 million option to buy clause as part of the loan deal but that has since expired and Villa has pounced.
The article says that Villa boss Unai Emery is a big fan of the 22-year-old and is eager to sign the left-back.
This will leave question marks on the futures of Lucas Digne and Alex Moreno who both occupy the same position.
Maatsen is currently with the Netherlands squad at Euro 2024.
I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine
With PSR issues hanging over the head of both Villa and Chelsea, this appears to be an “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” deal with reports that Jhon Duran could join the London club this summer.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has had his say on the deals. He has stated that the deal could be in the region of £37.5 million and will see a Villa player go in the opposite direction in a separate deal.
???????????? The agreement between Aston Villa and Chelsea for Ian Maatsen is for £37.5m total fee.
One player to be included in discussions to join Chelsea from Villa will be formally in separated deal.
Final round of talks soon for personal terms details, then… here we go. ???????? pic.twitter.com/7LIATlWFUj
