Aston Villa Women have confirmed the signing of Ebony Salmon, on a three-year deal.
For a second season running Carla Ward has turned to NWSL side Houston Dash to sign a forward, with Villa fans hoping this will be as successful as Rachel Daly was last season.
The 22-year-old forward came through the youth system at Villa before making her senior debut in 2017 in a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield in the then WSL2, now known as the Women’s Championship. Her first professional goal came a month later in a 4-0 win over Watford. She remained at Villa for just one season where she featured 12 times scoring 7 goals.
After her first professional season, the Dudley native transferred to Manchester United where she didn’t make any appearances before going on loan to Sheffield United in 2019 where she went on to make 9 appearances scoring 7.
At the end of that campaign, she was on her travels again, this time joining Bristol City. She featured 34 times for Bristol across 2 seasons scoring 11 goals before moving overseas to compete in the National Women’s Soccer League in 2021.
Salmon started her US adventure at Racing Louisville where she made 25 appearances scoring 6 goals. She soon fell out of favour after a change of manager and moved on to Houston Dash in 2022 where she scored 10 goals over 29 appearances.
Salmon has now returned to Villa for a second spell where she has signed a 3-year contract for the club. Having previously played under Carla Ward, Salmon hopes this move can help her return to the England team where she currently has 4 caps last being selected during the successful Arnold Clark Cup trophy-winning team.
It will be interesting to see how Salmon can link up with Daly, help push the team further, and provide some competition for the starting line-up. Hopefully, we will be able to see her speed and hold-up play become a big boost for the team in the coming seasons.
