With the Premier League ending this week, there’s another interesting time to look forward to – the summer transfer season. Many outlets from football portals to Vwin have decried the precarious financial situation clubs find themselves in after a year of decreased revenues, leaving their purses thinner than in any previous year when it comes to signing talent.
While we can’t expect this summer’s transfers to break any records, there are still a few interesting transfers reportedly still ahead of us – and some of them are reportedly headed to Villa Park.
David Turnbull in
21-year-old midfielder David Turnbull has been linked to Aston Villa in a transfer reportedly worth £7 million. The single bright spot in an otherwise dull season for the Celtics has spent his formative years – and the first three seasons of his professional career – with Motherwell F.C. before joining the ranks of Celtic in 2020.
He played in 31 league games with the club, scoring eight goals and collecting quite a few accolades in the process, including the Celtic FC Young Player of the Year, the Celtic FC Player of the Year, and the SPFL Premiership Player of the Month in December 2020.
Tammy Abraham in
Tammy Abraham is not unfamiliar for Villa fans – he spent most of the 2018-2019 season at Villa Park on loan from Chelsea. His loan spell was a successful one, with 25 goals scored in 37 league games, helping the team promote to the Premier League. His tenure with Villa is still fondly remembered to this day.
Apparently, Abraham has fallen out of favour at Chelsea since Thoams Tuchel replaced Lampard in the managerial position this January, in spite of him becoming the first Englishman to score a hat-trick for Chelsea in the FA Cup since Lampard himself did in 2007.
Rumours speak of Chelsea’s willingness to let Abraham go in a transfer valued at £40 million.
Tom Heaton out
Tom Heaton’s transfer to Manchester United is considered by many to be a “done deal” already. The 35-year-old goalkeeper joined Aston Villa in August 2019 and played with the team until his season-ending knee injury last January. While Heaton was still sidelined in September, Villa signed a replacement for him – Emiliano Martínez from Arsenal – as the team’s first-choice goalie. Upon his return to the first team, Heaton was only capped as an unused replacement in the team’s match against Crystal Palace in December.
Heaton graduated from Manchester United’s youth academy in 2005 but never had the chance to play while there – he spent his first five years on loan at various teams before leaving Manchester for Cardiff. The goalkeeper is expected to leave as soon as his two-year contract ends.
