Aston Villa returns to Villa Park following the international break, buoyed by the impressive 5-1 victory away at Norwich City.
Brighton and Hove Albion are the opponents who themselves will want to continue to build upon their brilliant 3-0 home victory against Tottenham Hotspur.
It is the kind of game that both sides will go into aiming for the three points as they will expect to be around each other come to the end of the season.
Brighton have had a mixed start to the season (W2 D3 L3) winning against Watford on the opening day and Tottenham last time out. They have a mixed bag of results as you would get on real money online slots. This sees them lie just one point above Villa in 14th. However, it should be noted that they have already played Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham already.
The moneyline odds at some of the online betting sites listed by SBD have Aston Villa as only +145 favourites over Brighton (+170). While Brighton impressed with a 3-0 away win over Watford on matchday 1, they are 0-2-2 away since then, getting outscored 7-1. They also recently lost to the Villans 3-1 at home. Despite BHA’s shocking 3-0 home win over Tottenham in early October, their general performance outside of Sussex makes Aston Villa the play.
It goes without saying that the result today will be down to the approach and how resolute Villa defend having dropped so many points from winning positions. The stats are there to see with Villa having more shots on target than anyone other than Manchester City and Liverpool and the likes of John McGinn and Jack Grealish creating so many opportunities.
Should Dean Smith’s men take the lead they need to ensure they don’t give away silly goals or it could be another case of what could’ve been. Back to back wins would be a huge boost with some tough ties coming up.
Dean Smith should have no fresh concerns other than James Chester (match fitness) and Jota (hernia) and will more than likely go with a similar line up to the one that best Norwich City.
Jonathan Kodjia may feature on the bench and that will be an interesting decision given the lack of match practice through injuries this season. He will surely want to get a chance to shine in the Premier League though possibly to force a move in January.
Brighton will be without Bernardo and Izquierdo (both knee) and new signing Leandro Trossard is doubtful with a groin injury.
MAN TO WATCH
It will be no surprise that I have gone for Neal Maupay as he was linked with Villa for so long and a reunion with Dean Smith. He has notched three goals for Brighton this season and has made a promising start to life in the Premier League. The Frenchman also seems to enjoy a goal against Villa having netted several against the Villans whilst at Brentford.
Aston Villa 2-1 Brighton
