Transfer Deadline Day – LIVE

BJARNASON DEPARTS (16:10)

Icelandic international, Birkir Bjarnason has left Aston Villa after he and the club agreed to cancel the remainder of his contract. With the recent incomings and squad of 25 to be announced it feels like the fairest thing to do. He played a part when called upon and scored some important goals. He will probably be most remembered for the fourth goal at home to Wolves.

Also talk of James Bree off on loan to Luton Town.

NO MORE INCOMINGS (13:30)

Dean Smith confirms that there will not be any more incomings, possible outgoings. He eluded to using Jota, Trezeguet and El Ghazi if needed alongside Wesley, Kodjia and Davis.

Ultimately it’s been a huge window and credit to the owners, the board and of course Smith and his team.

I’ll be back if there are any further outgoings!

I’M STILL HERE! – SMITH PRESS CONFERENCE (12:50)

Had time to race out and prep a BBQ due to lack of news. Now hoping it will come flooding in but I won’t hold my breath! Dean Smith press conference is imminent and hopefully will give us a clearer indication of whether there will be much going on later on.

MCGINN PENS NEW CONTRACT (10:15)

Possibly the best news of both today and the summer. I just don’t think you understand …

ALL QUIET, MAY STAY QUIET … (09:30)

Away from the stories and rumours this morning the latest report indicates a very quiet day ahead for Villa. Surely not another final day where no one comes in!

FOOTBALL AGENT SPOTTED WITH CEO? (08:45)

Now I usually distance myself from these sort of posts but it’s Transfer Deadline Day and there’s pictures doing the rounds of CEO Christian Purslow with another man that looks very much like Meissa N’Diaye. He happens to be the agent of both Wissam Ben Yedder and also Jean-Kevin Augustin who was lined earlier in the week. Thoughts?

DIAGNE STILL A POSSIBILITY
(08:35)

Reports in Turkey are still highlighting the possibility of Mbaye Diagne moving to the Premier League and Aston Villa. The Senegalese forward scored 30 goals in 29 league games last season for Kasimpasa and Galatasaray.

STRANGEST STORY – FORMER VILLA STRIKER PROLONGS CAREER (07:45)

If you missed it yesterday, former forward, Julian Joachim signed for Gibraltar League side Europa Point F.C.

The real story is that he is 44 and it gives all of us hope! Good luck JJ!

BENRAHMA DEAL STILL ON THE TABLE
(07:35)

According to French media group L’equipe, the offer for Said Benrahma is still in from Aston Villa but they indicate the offer hasn’t been altered. Is it a case of testing Brentford’s resolve to lower the cost or will the two clubs valuations remain wide apart meaning probably no deal?

THE STRIKER DEBATE (07:25)

With Scott Hogan going out on loan to Stoke City, it leaves Wesley, Jonathan Kodjia and Keinan Davis as recognised strikers which obviously highlights the need for an addition to bolster the front line. One key factor will be the willingness to start as a substitute when asked, should Dean Smith continue to play one up top. With all the new faces that have come in it will be a real test of how Smith and his team will man-manage the players who will all be keen to show what they are capable of.

10 HOURS TO GO (07:00)

I’ve heard possibly up to three incoming with several outgoing today. I’d be surprised at three but who knows! Hoping for some new faces though as traditionally on Deadline Day I have ran these live posts and we’ve seen absolutely nobody coming in!

BENRAHMA DEAL STILL ON?  (06:55)

The deal to bring Brentford winger Said Benrahma into Villa Park seems to have been going on for some time now with reports that the valuation of the player is somewhat different between the two clubs. Reports this morning are still indicating a deal could be close to being finalised.

EXPERIENCED PREMIER LEAGUE STRIKER AN OPTION? (06:40)

Another name that has been doing the rounds and was sent in by several people last night and this morning is Olivier Giroud. Experienced in the Premier League, Giroud is currently still with Chelsea but will Frank Lampard be able to offer him regular game time?

MYSTERY FRENCH STRIKER REVEALED? (06:05)

Overnight rumours that Villa have bid for Sevilla striker Wissam Ben Yedder. A deal would certainly smash our previous record for a player linked with Manchester United previously. I’d be surprised myself but it would be some statement if true.

HERE WE GO AGAIN (06:00)

Good morning! It’s Deadline Day after what has been an incredibly busy window since Aston Villa’s return to the Premier League was confirmed at Wembley 74 days ago.

I’ll be here all day to keep an eye on all things Villa and remember the window closes at 17:00.

With a striker and a winger still very much on most people’s list and several possible outgoings, it will hopefully be a busy day!
