When Villa signed the injury prone, out of favour defender Tyrone Mings on loan in January, no-one could have foreseen the impact he would have. He has been a fantastic addition to Dean Smith’s squad as he helps us get promoted.
The 26-year-old came straight into the starting line-up and was an instant success. The impact he had on our defence was there for all to see. We were leaking goals with a James Chester and Tommy Elphick partnership. Chester was playing through a career-threatening injury which didn’t help the situation.
Aston Villa looked far more rigid and we stopped conceding as many goals as we were before.
Premier League opportunity
Mings has never really been given a proper chance in the Premier League. This is largely down to unfortunate luck with injuries. He proved to many that he is more than capable of making the step up during his time in the Championship with Villa.
I am hopeful that he will get that opportunity with Villa. The fan favourite has been the focal point for almost all Villa’s transfer talk so far this summer. Villa fans are desperate to see the announcement.
Signing Mings
Now the defender has returned from holiday, you would hope the move was just a matter of time now. The rumours suggest that Bournemouth is asking for a price which Villa are not prepared to pay. Long gone are the days of clubs robbing Villa so the negotiations continue.
I would expect to pay around the £15million mark which in my opinion would represent good value for money. Alongside Kortney Hause, who signed recently, Mings could prove to be quite the defender for us.
Until recently Mings had a picture of himself in the Villa kid on his personal Social Media accounts. On top of that, he has interacted quite frequently with Villa supporters. I think it is clear to see how he would welcome a move to Villa Park. He knows he would be appreciated by the Villa faithful.
There was also reports that we were going to have to fight Brighton off for the centre back, amid rumours of Mings’ girlfriend not wanting to move to Birmingham. Hopefully these are fake rumours, as we haven’t seen a lot about it and Mings does what’s right and heads down to Villa Park – where he belongs.
