As we approach our first season back in the Premiership, one of the positions we need to strengthen is the striker position. Tammy Abraham occupied this position during our promotion campaign. During a loan spell from Chelsea, Abraham netted 26 times for Aston Villa.
Chelsea have reportedly put a £25million price tag on the 21-year-old striker. The question I have for you is, Is Tammy the answer to the question Aston Villa are asking?
Championship goals
Let’s start with the obvious, 26 goals in the championship is no mean feat – especially when Tammy spent 2 chunks of the season out injured. He’s also done it twice, two 20+ scoring seasons in the championship really shows that Abraham knows how to find the back of the net. But is £25 million too expensive for a striker who still needs to prove himself in the Premiership?
Although not a bargain, in today’s market, £25 million is probably about right for a player who the potential he has. Abraham seems to be one of those players who has been around for a long time. It is so easy to forget his age. He has played on a regular basis for the England u21’s and age groups before. You could even argue that he has more experience than most homegrown players his age.
Abraham has openly stated that he would like an opportunity to prove himself at Chelsea next season. With the club under a transfer embargo, it may just force their hand. However, should Chelsea’s appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport becomes successful, the rumours suggest that Tammy is welcome to leave.
Premiership Experience
He has had one season in the Premiership to date. It was a largely unsuccessful loan spell with Swansea City. Abraham scored just five goals but that was two seasons ago. Hopefully, he has had the chance to learn from past experiences giving him more confidence the second time around.
Villa are most likely to spend big in the transfer market. They don’t have much choice with only Keinan Davis and Jonathan Kodjia currently at the club. Davis has the potential to be a big striker in the future but I feel he needs a loan spell to get some more experience and regular game time.
Kodjia has the flare to turn a defender inside out. The Ivorian can be unplayable on his day but he is unproven in the Premiership. I am not confident that he has what it takes to start week in, week out in the Premiership.
If the opportunity arises, we should snap Tammy Abraham up. A future England international and only 21 years old with definite goals. We would be making a mistake by not going for him.

It’s time now that the teams management got to grips with the financial side of the running of the Villa. Buying young English player should be the priority right now. Making the youth teams and reserve the best in Britain should also be pushed forwards. Get rid of the old dead wood now and build for the future. Hold on to those players that have promise but don’t hold them back let them out on loan and put clauses in their contracts that stands Aston Villa the club, to benefit at all times. be on the look out for Talent anywhere in the world. Aston Villa FC. Is a massive global product if we just use our intelligence in the way we run and merchandise the club.
First team buying of players should be looked at in a completely different way.?
(1) when buying a player we shouldn’t just rush, out and buy a replacement for a forward, midfielder, or or Defender, or or goalkeeper. Just because we need to fill up the squad. in we need to be more flexible in the way we look at team players.
(2)The manager along with the director of football and the head of coaching head of Scouting. Should be the only people involved in pic picking out potential players for the club but the manager should always have the final and casting vote an old decisions to do with playing staff.
Is it true that Aston Villa was the only English club not to have a scouting representative present at the Toulouse Under-21 European championships. Then I would hope Mr Dean Smith the manager of Aston Villa would have had someone there scouting on his behalf.
