Magical McGinn

Before Steve Bruce became the latest Aston Villa manager to be axed, he actually did what could be one of the biggest parts of our season. He signed John McGinn from Scottish league team Hibernian in the transfer window for a reported £2.5 million.

It would be fair to presume that the majority of Villa supporters had never heard of McGinn. As usual many did their own research through social media. The feedback that was received from Hibs fans was very positive and I think most of us couldn’t wait to see what the Scotsman had to offer.

Fan Favourite

It turns out he is virtually the complete midfielder we have craved at Villa for a long time. He has only been in the Second City for a couple of months and he is already a firm fan favourite.

McGinn has a sensational work rate and determination in the middle of the park. He chases every ball, every pass and never seems to stop running. The midfielder once joked about his running style looks like he was chasing a helicopter. If we are being honest, its hard to disagree with that as long as keeps running for Villa then we are happy.

Another bonus is how well he compliments Jack Grealish. He is the nitty gritty player who can hold the ball up while Grealish adds the flair to create some magic in the final third.

Wonder Goal

Saying that McGinn’s first ever goal for the claret and blue actually earned him EFL Goal Of The Month! His left-footed volley against Sheffield Wednesday was simply phenomenal, slapping the crossbar as it flew in. No keeper on planet earth was getting anywhere near that rocket. This also shows he has quality in the attacking region rather than just the defending aspect.

His ability to hold the ball and turn on it reminds me a little of Gareth Barry. He puts his body between man and ball giving the opportunity virtually no chance. His low Center of gravity comes in handy as well but his strength for a smaller man is quite impressive.

McGinn could easily be the key to unlocking our teams full potential. You can see how vital he is in Dean Smith’s new free-flowing football. Alongside Grealish, they have the potential to tear this league to shreds and I am sure they will, given time.
