Robert Huth incoming?

It is no secret that after letting Tommy Elphick go out on loan, we have been left short in the centre back department. It leaves James Chester as the only recognised Centre half in the first team. Reports are now suggesting that Robert Huth could be that man to help fill the void.

It appeared that we had also missed out on John Terry but he publicly turned down a move to Spartak Moscow yesterday. I won’t get too bogged down with that rumour though as I believe we have read it all.

Best free agents

Instead, I will turn my attention to another defender being linked with a move to Villa, Robert Huth.

The former Leicester and Stoke defender is probably one of the better free agents out there. And if you are to believe reports we are looking to get his services for the rest of this season, at least.

The big German is available on a free after being released by Leicester in the summer.

Leicester

Huth could be just what Nyland needsThe 34 year old had a decent spell during his three years at City. He played an integral part in their title success three years ago. Huth is exactly what I picture when I think of your typical centre back. A no-nonsense player who should at least add some solidity to our back line.

He isn’t afraid of a strong tackle or throwing his head in front of anything that moves and that’s the kind of player we need to slide into the team. For a big man, he’s also not so bad with his feet – so hopefully the days of dodgy backpasses to Orjan Nyland are over.

Verdict

Although it is not ideal I believe Huth is one of the best that are currently available. He is an out and out centre-back who has had success. His signing would also surely signal the end of Mile Jedinak playing alongside Chester.

What do you think of the potential signing of Huth? Has he still got it or will he just slow is down as we challenge for promotion? Have your say in the comments section.

  1. If Robert Huth is indeed under consideration, why then haven’t we wrapped up a deal during the international break? Surely the past couple of weeks provided the opportune time to get him on board?

  2. Defensive ticking time bomb yes it is and as we haven’t signed anyone yet let’s hope it doesn’t go off this week end. We have the best attack in the league, so let’s hope they can score more goals than we concede, now I read that Bruce is considering letting De Laet out the on loan, which planet is the guy on. By the time Terry has made his mind up most of the decent free agents will have been signed up.

  3. Lets get Huth or Collins on board. I think Terry has had long enough now and seems he will choose the highest bidder. Time to move on I reckon.

  4. Huth is better than nothing…and at the moment Villa have nothing…!!

Bruce’s time is over. The time has come for him to go..!!

  5. We should get huth as back up and play tuanzebe with chester and also give bedeau a chance with bree/de laet or elmo at right bk

  6. Yes, Huth could be the answer but why having we got him or another in within the international break.
We have one of the worst defensive records in this division and its seems Bruce and others need a rocket up thier arses as this is a rediculous and unacceptable situation to be in
If we loose Chester due to suspension or injury then what happens
