Away days – Leeds, Elland Road

Aston Villa has once again sold their full allocation of 2,773 tickets for tonights Sky Sports Friday night live game against Leeds and Elland Road.

Elland Road is the 13th largest football stadium in England, the forth outside of the Premiership and has been the home of Leeds United since 1919.

The stadium has a capacity of 37,890 and his dominated by the huge East Stand which holds around 15,000 spectators.

Outside of the stadium, there are statues of club legends Billy Bremner and Don Revie.

Away supporters are housed towards the South Stand in the John Charles Stand. The seating is a mixture of wooden and plastic seats and the leg room isn’t great.

Last season Villa supporters encountered a well-publicized horrible experience at the ground where many fans were crushed due to poor stewarding and policing so arrive with plenty of time and my advise would be to find your seat as they were seating people anywhere last year (which partly caused a lot of issues).

In the concourse, the usual football grub is available including burgers and pies priced around £3.80. Alcohol is available depending on fan behaviour.

Drysalters, Elland RoadThe ground has a bar at the South and West corners of Elland Road for away supporters called Howards. The bar opens two hours before kick off and you must show your away ticket to gain entrance.

Another option is the Drysalters which is a 10-minute walk away from the ground. The pub offers plenty of choices of alcohol and food. I went here last season and it gets extremely busy. It is known to have a mixture of supporters but it was predominately Villa supporters last year.

Leave the M1 at Junction 43 and take the M621, towards Leeds City Centre. Take Junction 1 left onto the A6110 Ring Road. Take the next left onto Elland Road for the ground.

The train from Birmingham New Street to Leeds will take around 2 hours. The station is around a 35-minute walk from the ground.

There is an option to rent a private driveway close to Elland Road. Simply visit Your Parking Space.

There are also two very large car parks right next to Elland Road that offers parking for just £5. Fans are advised to park in ‘Car Park A’ to enable a quick exit at the end of the game.
