Aston Villa welcome League One side Wigan Athletic to Villa Park tonight in the Carabao Cup Second Round as Steve Bruce looks to book a place in the draw for the Third Round.

Villa picked up their first win in the Championship on Saturday with a 4-2 victory over Norwich City and they will be looking to keep up the momentum when the Latics come to B6.

Paul Cook’s Wigan side have won all four of their games this season so far including a 2-0 away win at Oldham Athletic on Saturday.


Can Steer be impressive again against WiganOn-loan Tottenham midfielder is a fresh injury concern for Villa after he picked up a head injury in the game with Norwich.

Gabby Agbonlahor remains a doubt after missing out the weekend with a back injury but Richie De Laet should be available. Mile Jedinak is back in training following a groin operation but is likely to be saved for the Championship trip to Bristol City on Friday night.

Chris Samba and Jed Steer are both expected to start.

Cook made 11 changes in the First round of the cup for Wigan and he is expected to make many changes again. Transfer listed Max Power, Will Grigg, Ryan Colclough and Alex Gilbey could all play a part.

Callum Elder is once again available having completed a three-match suspension but Shaun McDonald (leg) and Chris Morgan (hip) are still unavailable through injury.


There are still tickets available as a low attendance is expected at Villa Park.
