Transfer Latest: John Terry & Ashley Young

Aston Villa manager, Steve Bruce has expressed to all those that will listen that he is aiming to sign at least four players this summer and naturally speculation is rife as to who these players could be. John Terry is the latest name to add to that list.

The Sun today have reported that Aston Villa is in transfer talks to sign former Chelsea captain John Terry. The defender recently posted a picture on his personal Instagram of him, his brother Paul, Villa boss Bruce and his son Alex.

Since then various other sources have reported the story including Sky Sports have jumped on the band waggon and have got Villa supporters excited at the thought of the former England International heading to B6 this summer.

I would love to see Terry join Aston Villa and see him playing in the famous Claret and Blue strip but I just can not see it. Especially since premier league clubs such as Bournemouth are linked with him, why would such an experienced defender drop down a division?

Could John Terry be heading to Birmingham?

Bruce reportedly tried to sign Terry when he was at Huddersfield many years back and the 36-year-old is said to be very keen on the idea of leading Aston Villa back to the promise land that is the Premier League.

Ashley Young

Another player who has been heavily linked with a move to Villa has actually been a Villa player before and a pretty damn good one too. Of course, you know who I’m referring to here, it’s Manchester United player Ashley Young. The bookies have him at 10/1 to return to Villa Park, and although I wouldn’t bet on it myself, I would love this rumour to be nothing but true.

Could Young be on his way to Villa Park?

According to the football website, ‘WhoScored‘ Young is a defender, whether he plays on the left or the right. All Villa fans would know that he is certainly not a defender and he is definitely more of a winger playing a lot further up the field.

In the 4 years that Young was a Villa player, he played 189 matches and scored 39 goals. One of the goals that stick in my head is the one that he scored in the 5-1 thrashing of local rivals Birmingham City when he first time thunder bolted a strike straight into the bottom right corner of the net.

During his time at Villa, he was always someone who we could rely on to create something out of nothing, and by god, he couldn’t half cross a ball. He hugged the touchline and could carry the ball from the end of the field to the other with the ball stuck to his foot like glue. This is something that we haven’t seen at Villa Park for many seasons.

Although I do think that Albert Adomah hugs the touchline, his crossing is very inconsistent (despite having the second-most assists in the league). Adomah is also a right-sided player whereas Young could offer us an option out on the left.

Young would be a great addition to the side, and I – like many other villans –  would love to see him in claret and blue again next season. Again, just like Terry, I am unsure there is anything in this story.
