All Villa fans will now know that the club is up for sale. Even though most fans wanted Randy Lerner to put Aston Villa back on the market, some fans may be worried about the seeming lack of progress with regard to the sale.

At present, next season looks bleak. Lambert finds himself in a tough predicament, as he will have a limited amount of money to spend, with Randy Lerner reluctant to provide considerable funds, due to him wanting to sell the club as soon as he can.

Will Lambert have to sell to buy? Ron Vlaar, player of the season Fabian Delph and Aston Villa’s longest serving member of the current squad Gabriel Agbonlahor are among a number of players who are out of contract at the end of next season, along with highly rated youngster Callum Robinson. With these players linked with moves away from Villa Park, could Lambert be tempted to sell in order to bring in new faces?

Roy Keane looks set to be appointed as Paul Lambert’s assistant manager, after he returns from international duty with Ireland. Some Villa fans may not want to see Roy Keane as part of the backroom staff, with some fans calling him a ‘bully’. However, I feel he is the type of person we need at this time. At times last season some of the players looked over confident. Confident players are fine but cockiness and arrogance are not good traits. I feel that Roy Keane will be stern with the players and that is what they need. Also, a number of Villa fans have brought up his past managerial record. He did very well with Sunderland, getting them into the Premier League in his first season. However, he then walked out on the club when it stared at the relegation zone in 2008. Things then turned sour at the end of his Ipswich managerial career, with a fall out with captain Jonathan Walters. It seems they have patched things up while working together for the Republic of Ireland. Hopefully, we will find out if he will take the job offered to him, after turning down the Celtic job, but he has since left his post for ITV’s coverage of the World Cup in Brazil, which increased speculation about him being appointed Paul Lambert’s assistant manager.

Next season, if we don’t strengthen, Villa fans may have to endure another season at the bottom of the league . I am worried as I can’t see more than three teams worse than Villa. With the return of Jores Okore, Libor Kozak and Christian Benteke, Lambert will have added quality that will undoubtedly help the team. The return of the ‘bomb squad’ members can go either way. If Lambert can get the best out of Charles N’Zogbia then he might just be the creative midfielder that we desperately crave.

Do you have any worries about next season? Which players would you like to see given a chance? Let me know by leaving a comment below.

  1. got friend who works in sales at villa season ticket sales at all time low another record for lamberk there are seven off us who used to renew every year, no more.

  2. The problem is Lambert isn’t going to suddenly turn into a good football manager, and Lerner isn’t suddenly going to turn into a capable businessman, just because it’s a new season.

  3. Good to see fans not renewing season tickets as this will help to push Lerner towards the door marked exit. We have become a joke club under our dumb yank the guy couldn’t run a bath let alone a football club

  4. Season ticket sales are a worry . Fully understand any hesitancy to renew. I have had a season ticket since 1968 and haven’t renewed yet. I probably will, purely out of habit not out of anticipation. Once fans stop being a season ticket holder they start by picking and choosing their games and then end up hardly ever going. It is hard to win them back UNLESS something major happens. New owner, quality players purchased and winning football (entertaining football doesn’t bring people back, winning does). Can’t see any of that happening in the near future, but in agreement with the writer there is hope. From the diabolical performances of the last few games we will have extra Senderos, Kozak, Okore, Gardner, N,Zogbia, Bent, Hutton??? plus very exciting youngsters in Grealish , Robinson and Carruthers. Also late October, the return of Benteke. Like or loathe Lambert he is in a very difficult position. No money to spend, but if he can steady the ship with a left back and one or two midfielders my season ticket may be worthwhile after all.
