Martin O’Neill Archive

MON could be making a big mistake!

MON could be making a big mistake!

Martin O’Neill is to allow several players to leave this summer so it can bolster is transfer kitty for next season but I’m questioning a couple of his decisions.

Curtis Davis has been linked with moves to both Spurs and Liverpool. This is a side who finished in the top four and another one which will no doubt be back challenging for the top four again next season wanting a player who is apparently not good enough for Aston Villa.

I like Curtis a lot and I believe he will one day represent England at the top level so I don’t see why O’Neill would rather keep James Collins who isn’t anywhere near as good as some make him out to be. Yes he’s good in the air but apart from that he is terrible.

And this leads me to the other player, Luke Young. Again because of O’Neill’s persistent to play James Collins it is forcing out the best English right back around. He couldn’t drop Carlos Cuellar because he is possibly our best defender when he plays in his own rightful position so that leave’s Luke Young in the wildness.

I don’t question many of Martin’s decision’s but I firmly believe that letting both of the two players I’ve mentioned could turn out to be a major regret for Martin.

Meanwhile John Carew has been linked with a move to Italy and Villa have been linked with a move for Adam Matthews of Cardiff.

Dunne wants Ireland, Warnock thinks we will lose Milner.

Dunne wants Ireland, Warnock thinks we will lose Milner.

The internet and the paper are just full of what two of our players think and want this summer.

First of all it is not good when a player of our own club comes out and states that he believes we will lose James Milner this summer.

It make’s me wonder if he’s heard or seen something in the England Camp this past week or so for him to believe this but he should be keeping his mouth shut and concentrating on trying to force his way into the England setup especially after Leighton Baines poor performance last night against Mexico.

I often wonder why players are aloud to talk so much in the press and it annoys the hell out of me, but eh? I’m just a football fan and I don’t run a football club so what do I know? Saying that it gives me something to write about here I suppose.

Stephen Ireland

Now there are rumours around that Stephen Ireland has handed in a transfer request to seek first team football elsewhere but I have searched everywhere and I can’t seem to find anything official on this.

Anyway, Richard Dunne has stated that he would welcome Stephen Ireland to Aston Villa with open arms and If Martin O’Neill is interested I think Dunne could just be the reason why Ireland joins Aston Villa.

But you have to question at what cost though? Would Man City want to sell to us unless we allowed James Milner to move in the other direction? They have been linked with a move for Mikel Arteta today and again it makes you wonder if they have given up on Milner and are looking elsewhere but I can’t see Arteta leaving Everton as he seem’s to be very loyal towards David Moyes.

So as much as we keep talking about in’s and out’s and our neighbours across the City look to be on the verge of signing there second player already this summer we still sit around waiting for some kind of news to come out of Villa Park.

Would losing Milner be such a disaster?

Would losing Milner be such a disaster?

I was reading Stan Collymore’s column in the Daily Star today and he spoke about James Milner and the prospect of losing him.

He went on to say that most people are saying James Milner has already hit his peak and he won’t get any better than he currently is so would it be such a bad thing to sell him now while we stand the chance of making so much money on him and in my opinion he does have a point.

Now of course it’s down to Martin O’Neill to decide weather or not he will improve some more and regardless of what O’Neill decides only the future will be able to tell.

The problem for O’Neill is that next season will be a massive one for him and if he doesn’t bring some form of success to Villa Park then I have a feeling he will walk if not pushed.

Back on topic anyway, I really like Jimmy a lot and would love him to stay at the club but losing players for big money can lead to future success.

Take Everton for example who lost Wayne Rooney to Manchester United. David Moyes went on to improve there squad and since have always been there or there abouts come the end of each season.

I know most fans won’t look at it like this way and just like Gareth Barry if Jimmy Milner does decide to leave he will become a traitor to them but one thing we must always remember and that is no amount of money or anyone football player is worth more than our Aston Villa Football Club.

Luke Young

Luke Young has pretty much said goodbye to his Aston Villa career after stating that Martin O’Neill hasnt given him a fair chance at the club this season.

I like Luke a lot and I personally believe he is the best English right back around but Martin O’Neill doesnt like players drying there laundry in public and it will be no different for Mr Young.

O’Neill and More Milner talk!

O’Neill and More Milner talk!

Lets face it we have a very good manager and one who is always going to be linked with top clubs so it is no real surprise that Liverpool apparently want Martin O’Neill to replace the possible outgoing Rafa Benitez.

Liverpool have had a absolute terrible season, and with the manager refusing to commit himself to the club despite just signing a long term deal and the ownership of the club in the air it’s no wonder they want a manager who can bring stab-ability.

And in my opinion there are two options for this and that’s Martin O’Neill and David Moyes and I don’t think Moyes is brave enough to move across Stanley Park after so long with the Blue side of Mersyside.

Randy Lerner has already said Martin will be at Villa Park next season and he has today come out in the press again stating that he wouldn’t allow O’Neill to move to Liverpool so that is that.

James Milner

According to a lot of the press Milner is already on his way out of Villa Park but unless he says he want’s to leave I don’t think he will be leaving as Villa wont sell him – after all we don’t need to.

Apparently Man City and Chelsea will do battle for his signature and will sign him for around £24million. Let’s face it this isn’t the first James Milner rumour and It wont be the last – It’s what comes with top quality players.

General Krulak: MON going nowhere!

General Krulak: MON going nowhere!

It looks more than likely that Martin O’Neill will still be manager of Aston Villa next season.

A fan on Villatalk stated that he was sick and tired of the style of football Villa play under Martin O’Neill. He went on to say that Villa have become a boring side to watch and far to predictable.

Something some would agree with, as many have mentioned the very same thing on our forums.

However, General Krulak good enough as stated in his reply that Martin O’Neill isn’t going anywhere and also revealed that Randy Lerner will hold a press conference in the coming week, which wont be bad news for Villa fans.

Anyway Krulak’s reply read:

I hate to disappoint you but we will not be getting a new Manager. We happen to believe that MON is the man we want and that he can get the job done.

So all those MON haters better get used to having him around and get behind the lads or stop coming down to Villa Park.
