M’Bami, Ben Arfa and Nicky Shorey

M’Bami, Ben Arfa and Nicky Shorey

Now the World Cup is over for England although the transfer rumours aren’t quite back into overdrive, they are starting to pick up with Villa today being linked with two players, with another rumoured to be on his way out.

Modeste M’Bami is a Cameroon international and is available on a free transfer and it’s no secret that Villa have at least made contact with the midfielder because he has been making a lot of noises.

He told Sky Sports: “I’ve been in contact with many clubs, Villa are a very good team but nothing’s official. I’m not going to talk about anything.”

I’m not going to big this player up or put him down because if I’m quite honest I don’t have a clue who he is or what he’s about. What I do know about his is what his wikipedia page tells me.

He’s a 27 year old Midfielder who’s just finished a season in Spain with Almeria after playing 27 times for them. Before that he had three years with Marsaille and six years with PSG in France. He has also represented Cameroon no less that 28 times.

Hatam Ben Arfa

The Mirror are today stating that Villa will look to Ben Arfa of Marsaille if they do lose James Milner this summer to Manchester City.

This is a player I know had a big reputation as a teen and was expected to produce big things but the talk about him has died down over the past few years.

A bid of around £12million is believe to be enough to prize him away from France. He has been capped 7 times by France despite being of a Tunisian descent and is described as a talented player but does tend to be criticized by his lack of discipline.

The last sentence suggests to me that this won’t happen as Martin O’Neill will only bring in players who will be yes men and do as there told. He doesn’t like players challenging him which Ben Arfa could well do if the French press are to be believed.

Nicky Shorey

We all know he will be leaving Villa Park this season but the question is where to? Billy Davies is today making noises stating that he would love to make Shorey a permanent fixture at Notts Forest after having a loan spell there next season.

Dunne wants Ireland, Warnock thinks we will lose Milner.

Dunne wants Ireland, Warnock thinks we will lose Milner.

The internet and the paper are just full of what two of our players think and want this summer.

First of all it is not good when a player of our own club comes out and states that he believes we will lose James Milner this summer.

It make’s me wonder if he’s heard or seen something in the England Camp this past week or so for him to believe this but he should be keeping his mouth shut and concentrating on trying to force his way into the England setup especially after Leighton Baines poor performance last night against Mexico.

I often wonder why players are aloud to talk so much in the press and it annoys the hell out of me, but eh? I’m just a football fan and I don’t run a football club so what do I know? Saying that it gives me something to write about here I suppose.

Stephen Ireland

Now there are rumours around that Stephen Ireland has handed in a transfer request to seek first team football elsewhere but I have searched everywhere and I can’t seem to find anything official on this.

Anyway, Richard Dunne has stated that he would welcome Stephen Ireland to Aston Villa with open arms and If Martin O’Neill is interested I think Dunne could just be the reason why Ireland joins Aston Villa.

But you have to question at what cost though? Would Man City want to sell to us unless we allowed James Milner to move in the other direction? They have been linked with a move for Mikel Arteta today and again it makes you wonder if they have given up on Milner and are looking elsewhere but I can’t see Arteta leaving Everton as he seem’s to be very loyal towards David Moyes.

So as much as we keep talking about in’s and out’s and our neighbours across the City look to be on the verge of signing there second player already this summer we still sit around waiting for some kind of news to come out of Villa Park.

For Sale: Aston Villa F.C?

For Sale: Aston Villa F.C?

I’m getting increasingly annoyed by the transfer speculation relating towards a select few of our players and I think it’s about time Villa approached it like a big club and got things sorted once and for all.

When Randy Lerner announced in a statement a few weeks ago that James Milner will be going nowhere I was a very happy man but the more papers and press I read and hear about the more I think it’s going to be one hell of a long summer and the Gareth Barry transfer saga comes to mind.

Let’s be honest if rumours are true Man City are joined by Chelsea and Man United in the hunt for Milner and he won’t be a Aston Villa player next season.

And the fact is James Milner is away at the moment with the England camp, and all three sides I mentioned above are all represented well in this camp so there’s no doubt they are talking about the situation with Jimmy.

What also seem’s to be coming out of the floorboards is rumours that City also want Ashley Young at the same time as Milner. Now I mentioned this a few weeks ago and I stated I wouldn’t mind losing Young but at the same time when will it stop if we just roll over and die and allow these player’s to leave one after another?

Why didn’t Villa just tie Milner down on a long term deal before he left for the World Cup? And then all this speculation could of been avoided.

Come on Villa – If we want to be a big football club, lets start acting like one!

O’Neill and More Milner talk!

O’Neill and More Milner talk!

Lets face it we have a very good manager and one who is always going to be linked with top clubs so it is no real surprise that Liverpool apparently want Martin O’Neill to replace the possible outgoing Rafa Benitez.

Liverpool have had a absolute terrible season, and with the manager refusing to commit himself to the club despite just signing a long term deal and the ownership of the club in the air it’s no wonder they want a manager who can bring stab-ability.

And in my opinion there are two options for this and that’s Martin O’Neill and David Moyes and I don’t think Moyes is brave enough to move across Stanley Park after so long with the Blue side of Mersyside.

Randy Lerner has already said Martin will be at Villa Park next season and he has today come out in the press again stating that he wouldn’t allow O’Neill to move to Liverpool so that is that.

James Milner

According to a lot of the press Milner is already on his way out of Villa Park but unless he says he want’s to leave I don’t think he will be leaving as Villa wont sell him – after all we don’t need to.

Apparently Man City and Chelsea will do battle for his signature and will sign him for around £24million. Let’s face it this isn’t the first James Milner rumour and It wont be the last – It’s what comes with top quality players.

£45million for Gabby and Young? Cya boys!

£45million for Gabby and Young? Cya boys!

There are reports today that Roberto Mancini is planning a audacious bid for two of our players – Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor.

But as the title suggest he believes that a £45million deal would be enough to secure the pair – well my response to Mancini is – what the hell are you waiting for?

I will probably get shot by many Villa fans but I’ve never seen the big fuss over Ashley Young. To say he creates so much is just silly really as he probably delivers a decent ball into the box once a game – twice if we are lucky.

And then there’s Gabby. I was one of his biggest critics before this season and I will hold my hand up and give credit where it’s due. Agbonlahor has improved as a footballer but I cant see him ever being that 25+ goal a season player.

Just think what we could do with £45million. I know Stephen Ireland looks to be leaving City and he would probably be aloud to leave for around the region of £6-7million and that would still leave over £30million to bring in more talent.

Then there is that striker that we have craved for so long – If you can’t find a decent striker with that kind of money then you really are in trouble.
