Four Villa Players could feature for England…

Four Villa Players could feature for England…

Four Aston Villa players could be in-line to feature at some point in tonight’s International friendly between England and Egypt at Wembley Stadium.

England regular Emile Heskey is the most likely to start out of the four, as he is a favourite of Wapello’s and is most likely to start alongside Wayne Rooney.

James Milner is also in with a big chance of starting. He’s gone from strength to strength this season, from being a World Cup hopeful to a certainty on the plane for next summer’s World Cup in South Africa.

Stephen Warnock will do battle with Everton full back Leighton Baines after Wayne Bridge ruled himself out last week and Ashley Coles injury.

And then finally there’s the return to the International fold for Stewart Downing. He was out with a broken leg and this is the first time he could return to the setup. I personally believe he’s least likely to play because I still think he’s capable of so much more at Villa – but then again Fabio Capello has made no secret of how much he rates the winger.

This is how tonight’s line-up could look like if he picked all four to start:

Joe Hart

Stephen Warnock – John Terry – Matthew Upson – Wesley Brown

Stewart Downing – Steven Gerrard – Frank Lampard – James Milner

Wayne Rooney – Emile Heskey

Stewart Downing bagged a double as Villa beat Burnley 5-2 at Villa Park today without really reaching top gear.

The first half sore a poor performance from the Villa side, which sore Burnley takes the lead after only ten minutes.

David Nugent broke free in the Villa area, who the centred the ball for Steven Fletcher who fired home for the away side.

Villa looked sluggish and out of shape, but they soon equalised just past the half hour mark. Ashley Young passed the ball to James Milner from a corner and then Young hit the ball that somehow missed everyone in the box and Villa were then level.

A different Villa side come out for the second half. Villa then took the lead nine minutes into the second half when Young sent in a low ball which sore Stewart Downing score.

The just three minutes later Stewart Downing scored again. Jensen beat out a shot from Agbonlahor but Milner responded quickest to the rebound, turned the ball back inside to Downing and his shot deflected past Jensen.

The scoring just continued when Villas next attack sore Gabriel Agbonlahor break down the left to centre the ball for England International Emile Heskey to fire past the Burnley keeper.

Burnley now looked in deep trouble and it wasn’t long before Villa made it five, Heskey found Milner in space and then he played the ball in only fire Gabby to beat the Burnley backline and score.

Late on Burnley pulled one back in extra time from Paterson.

Villa was never at their best today but still scored five and will now be looking to beat Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

Season begins now for Aston Villa

Season begins now for Aston Villa

We’ve reached the business side of the season now when results start to actually mean something, and a defeat could mean your whole season is over.

Villa have had a week free this week, with no game until Sunday when we take on Burnley in the Premier League, so Martin O’Neill has given some of the players a much needed rest.

James Milner has started to look jagged over the past few games and with the biggest game of his career just over one week away, it’s something he and the rest of the lads need.

We all remember last season and how it ended, and instead of going abroad somewhere Martin has given the players a few days of just to chill with family and friends and I personally believe this will benefit us more than it would if the players went away.

The reason I say this is because they are at home spending time with their kids, and this is something most footballers love to do. They can get up when they want, take the kids to and from school – quite possibly things they can’t do in their usual day to day running of things.

But unlike other seasons when we have faded, this season we can’t and it’s time for the players who have been spoke about for quite a long time now about possible potential they do or don’t have to step up to the plate.

This side could go on to become winners in the future, and I’m not just talking about this season, I’m talking about the future seasons.

The story so far.. James Milner

The story so far.. James Milner

Just under eighteen months ago James Milner had signed for Aston Villa and was making his second debut for the club against Liverpool.

In the 18 months hes gone from warming up the bench to possibly the first name on Martin O’Neill’s teamsheet. The yorkshireman has made such a impact in his short time at Villa park he is now virtually a dead cert to be boarding the plane to this summers World Cup in South Africa.

On his 23rd birthday, Villa played Gillingham in the FA Cup third Round at the Priestfield. The midfielder managed to score both goals that day in a 2-1 victory for the Villans.

He also went on to score his first premier league goal against Sunderland in January 2009, at the Stadium of Light. Milner headed home a Ashley Young cross to equalise for Villa that day in a game they went on to win 2-1.

It was February 7th when supporters from across the country started to sit up and take notice of this young talent. Fabio Capello named Milner in his England squad.

However it wasn’t until August 2009 when he made his first team international debut, when he came of the bench for 23 minutes against Holland. He made such a impact in that time that he set up a goal for Jermaine Defoe which gave England a share of the spoils that day as the game ended 2-2.

Milner, was originally a wide man but in the 2009/10 season he has been moved into the centre of the midfield and now some compare him to Chelsea star Frank Lampard.

His workrate is second to none and one thing you can guarentee about James Milner, is he will always give 100%.

When he signed many questions his big price tag, however if you ask any Villa fans right now im sure they would agree with me that his pricetag was just a snippet of what hes worth now and it would take a lot for any club to prize him away from Aston Villa.

Its amazing what 18 months can do, lets hope we see James Milner playing in a Villa shirt for the next 8-10 years.

So remember, Theres only one Jimmy Milner!

In a match which saw ten goals, looking more like a rugby score, I think it is fair to say I couldn’t go into a great deal of detail about each goal tonight as I quite simply can’t remember!

But the important thing is, Aston Villa will be playing in a cup final at Wembley next month – something I’ve been wanting to say for a long time now.

However, things didn’t look that way early in the first half as Kalinic, someone who couldn’t find the net in the last leg, couldn’t help but score this time around, firing home twice in the first half hour.

At that point, I’ll be honest – I thought we had messed everything up.

But it was hard strike on the six-yard line by former Blackburn player, Stephen Warnock which made us a bit more optimistic.

Things were even sweeter when Gabby Agbonlahor was brought down in the box resulting in being awarded a penalty kick and Samba being sent off. And before you ask, no doubts from me, it definitely was a correct decision.

James Milner didn’t fail to impress as he struck home a powerful penalty, despite Robinso diving the right way.

Just to keep you updated, at this point it was 2-2 and stayed that way until half time.

It was the second half that killed the game off and Blackburn’s sight of a cup final was becoming forever fainter, despite netting another two goals!

On the 52nd minute, an inswinging cross from Stewart Downing found the ball deflecting off the opposing players, with Steven Nzonzi being the unlucky one, ’scoring’ and own goal to put the Villa 3-2 up (4-2 on aggregate).

It was Agbonlahor next on the scoresheet, first blocking Milner’s shot but managing to find the net from inside the six-yard area.

Next, it was no other than Emile Heskey. Yes, you read it write, Heskey can score in a ten goal match! But credit when it’s due, Emile played very well tonight and took this finish very well, taking the ball round Paul Robinson to finish off Villa’s fith of the match.

And it didn’t stop there!

It was Blackburn’s turn this time, with unmarked Martin Olsson scoring a spectacular over-head volley leaving Brad Guzan with no chance.

We had to wait until the last 10 minutes for the next goal and it came from Rovers again. Brett Emerton this time with a shot just outside the box, finding the bottom corner of the net. And I was worried about where the next goal was going to come from!

But thankfully, it was Ashley Young who rounded off this thrilling match with a fantastic finish, bending it past Robinson.

To conclude this perculiar, but outstanding match, no player for Villa scored more than one goal.

These being Warnock, Milner, Agbonlahor, Heskey, Young and an Nzonzi own goal.

Goals from Kalinic (2), Ollson and Emerton wasn’t enough to send them through as the game finished at a staggering 6-4, surely one of the best semi-finals the competition has seen.

Despite conceding four goals at home, we can now officialy say the words that have been overdue at Villa Park:

‘We’re the famous Aston Villa and we’re going to Wembley!’
