Sidwell on his way, while England draw again!
Sky Sports are this morning reporting that Fulham have made a official approach to take Steve Sidwell from Aston Villa.
Sidwell only has one year left on his current deal so Villa will probably get around £2million for him. Although he’s never really been a hit at the Villa, on or off the field he has been loyal to us and done what he could to get into the side.
Maybe he wasn’t good enough but any player who just get’s on with things in this day and age deserves credit so when he doe’s leave weather it be Fulham or anywhere else I wish him the best of luck.
Embarrassing England and Wayne Rooney
There must be something wrong with you if you didn’t either watch last nights game or haven’t heard about it to much so I won’t go on to bore you about it. Heskey again played, and again he was the best player on the pitch but for some reason he was still subbed despite a certain Mr Capello stating he will only play players on form. Ask yourself this, why is Wayne Rooney not sitting on the bench then?
Seeing as I’ve come onto Mr Rooney before I planned to, he is a absolute idiot and has gone down in my books after comments he made last night about the fans.
Wayne, are you that high up now you forget what it’s like to struggle to get to games? Have to take out loans that you will still be repaying come the next World Cup just to follow your country? Those fans have every right to boo what they seen last night and I’m not usually one that agree’s with this kind of thing.
Beckford, Zamora and The North Stand.
It’s come to that time of the season where there isnt much to write about in terms of Aston Villa related that you haven’t heard already, except today when I’ve come across a few stories worth talking about.
Jermaine Beckford
It’s no secret that he is on a free transfer this summer and that he would love the opportunity to have a crack at the Premier League and we just happen to be the latest side to be linked with him.
I would have a punt at him, he’s still young and will probably come in on a pretty low wage so why not? Although I don’t think there’s anything in the story as I recently watched a video of the Leeds end of season awards when Ken Bates pretty much concluded that he will be joining Everton and that they would never be a bigger club than Leeds.
So I can see this rumour being a non starter.
Bobby Zamora
Every season without fail there is always a player who exceeds people’s expectations and then come the Summer he get’s linked with a move to pretty much any club that has money to spend. And the 2010 candidate is non other than Bobby Zamora.
Let’s face fact – he’s not good enough to play for England and he isn’t worth the £8million the press claim he is worth. He has had a pretty decent season at Fulham but how can a player turn so good overnight? After all he’s never really impressed anywhere he’s played before and what’s that saying people say? “A player doesn’t turn bad overnight” – Well surely this applies the other way round to?
The fact is across his career he has only scored a goal every 3 games – and how is this any better than what we already have?
The North Stand

I’m sure you have read at some point this week about Randy Lerner and the fact he has plans to sort out the worst stand in our ground – The North Stand.
Well is this the picture of how Villa Park will look once the North Stand work has been completed? The News of the World has today gone with a story displaying how all stadiums will look for the 2018 World Cup and its the images that England have submitted in there bid to gain the competition.
Makes you wonder doesn’t it? Well I am impressed and wouldn’t mind if Villa Park looked like this when the work was completed.
Full Time: Fulham 0 Aston Villa 2
Despite snow in the area the game kicked of in the winter sun, with the Villa fans making all the noise. Villa went with the same side as we predicted that started in mid-week against Arsenal.
All the talk before this game was all about how Villa have failed to score in the past four games, and havent won in any of those four either, but as i said time and time again, look at the fixtures and you can see why. Playing Arsenal twice and a game with Liverpool in there – the reports forget to mention these though dont they?
Villa took the lead today on 39 minutes when Petrov crosses the ball into the Fulham area, and Gabby Agbonlahor beat Chris Smalling in the air and heads it towards the Fulham goal, and despite hitting directly at Mark Schwarzer, the power of the header gives Villa the lead.
Gabby’s second of the afternoon, is defernatly one worth seeing on Match of the Day tonight. Carlos Cuellar played the ball into Agbonlahor, who turns Hangeland on the edge of the box and side foots it into the Fulham net for his twelve goal of the season.
Fulham nearly got a goal back when David Elm sneaked in behind Luke Young and fired past Brad Friedel only for it to be ruled out for offside.
Despite Fulham having chances to score, and denied by some wonderful saves from veteran keeper Brad Friedel, Villa defernatly deserved all three points and they will now be looking forward to taking on Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
I don’t usually mention chants but one the Villa fans sung today made me chuckle. Sung to the Fulham fans after the goal was ruled offside: “You only sing when your offside”.
Preview: Fulham v Aston Villa
Aston Villa travel to Craven Cottage this afternoon becoming Fulhams first opponents at Craven Cottage in 2010. The Londoners have gone ten games unbeaten at home, so this won’t be no easy fixture for Villa.
Villa, without a win or a goal in four games but im sure they will be looking to put that right. While Fulham havent won a game in five.
Teamnews for the homeside still see’s them without the likes of Andy Johnson, Clint Dempsey, Paul Konchesky and John Panstil. However, Bobby Zamora and Simon Davis will step up there comebacks and should play some part in the game.
Martin O’Neill will keep faith in his side that drawed at home with Arsenal in mid-week, as John Carew and Stephen Warnock are still ruled out. While Nigel Reo-Coker was ruled out for three months earlier in the week.
This wont be no easy game for either side and both will want to stop the rot in there recent league form.
Avillafan.com Prediction: Away win (1-2)
