Shaun Maloney was signed from Scottish giants Celtic for a fee of £1million, to team up with his former boss Martin O'Neill. He did enitialy agree to join Villa on a free in ths summer but O'Neill wanted the Scot signed up as soon as possible and he was signed seconds before the January deadline in 2007.
Shaun made his debut against Reading which ended as a 2-0 defeat. Didnt take him long to show what he could do however when he scored a fantastic free-kick against Manchester City and the Stadium of Manchester on April 28, 2007.
Before Aston Villa

Shaun Maloney joined Celtic as a trainee in 1999. Two years later he made his debut against Celtics old firm rivals Rangers, were Celtic went on to win 3-0.
In the 2005 - 2006 season Shaun won the SPFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year, the first time a player has won them both at the same time. He also won the Fans Player of the Year and Players Player of the Year that season which sore him score 16 goals and have 28 assists.
