Gareth Barry signed for Aston Villa as a trainee in 1997 from Brighton and Hove Albion. It wasnt long before making his first team appearance on May 2 1998 against Sheffield Wednesday. He played in defence as part of a 3 man backline with Ugo Ehiogu and Gareth Southgate.
Gareth is the current club captain and has played over 300 times for Villa and will be celebrating his 10th season as a Aston Villa first team player this season.
Barry is a very adaptable player being able to play in center and out on the left at both defence and midfield positions. He is a big fan favourite with the Aston Villa faithfull.

Gareth Barry was in the Brighton and Hove Albion youth setup before being brought by Aston Villa in 1997.
International.
Gareth Barry has played at all levels for his country, and even captained the England U-18 side. He played 27 games for England U-21, a record which was held until Scott Carson broke it in the summer of 2007.
Gareth also has 15 first team caps playing under 4 different coaches in that time. Barry was recalled to the England setup in a friendly against Spain on 7th February 2007.
He then went on to make 3 starts as he kept Frank Lampard out of the England setup.
