Jordan Amavi started life as a footballer in his hometown with Sporting Toulon Var in 2001 and remained there until 2010.
He then joined OGC Nice’s youth set-up in 2010 and spent three seasons as a member of the club’s youth team.
Amavi made his first team début in the opening game of the 2013-14 season against Olympique Lyon. Struggling a little with the physicality of Ligue 1, Amavi made nine starts in his breakthrough season and another ten appearances as a substitute.
When OGC Nice’s first choice left back Kolodziejcza joined Sevilla, Amavi secured a starting place for the 2014-15 season and showed incredible potential. Regarded as a truly modern full back, Amavi is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and uses his pace to his advantage, which means he is a real threat going forward as well as a competent defender. Strong in the air and a good dribbler, he has also demonstrated excellent positional sense for a young player. To aid his development, manager Puel also played Amavi on the left wing and as a defensive midfielder.
Still very much a developing talent, the future looks bright for Jordan Amavi, who joined Aston Villa Football Club on July 18th 2015, signing a five-year deal, for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £10 million. It is hoped that he will blossom at Aston Villa and solve the left back problem that has plagued the side in recent years.
Amavi has represented France at Under-18, Under-20 and Under-21 level and is tipped to become one of the country’s best left backs and a regular in the senior side before long.
