Interview with The Deafout.

Please note this interview may contact some strong and abusive language.

The Deafout are the latest band to appear on the Birmingham indie scene. Tim Gebhard took a few minutes to answer some of our questions in our interview.

Hey Tim, can you first introduce youself to anyone who dont know you and give us some background information?
hello! I'm 1/4 of a band based in brum called the deafout...who are great..

Theres four of you in the band, can you tell us who's who and who supports who?
I'm tim and I'm villa and im the lead singer. James is the rhythm/lead player and is a baggies fan but a secret villa fan i reckon, jake our drummer is baggies and finally adam our bass player is also Villa.

What do you think about the past two years at Villa Park since the takeover of Randy Lerner and Martin O'Neill?
It's not going to be instant sucess is it? He needs time to mould the team into the team he wants and i can see that takeing shape. The last two years have been a improvement, the team is young aswell so we need to gain experience but we are moving in the right direction. The last two years havent been great but not bad either but the good times are coming back to the villa!

Where do you think Villa will finish this year? and why?

Around 9th-10th i'd say. this is another season for building next season we are going to be higher.

What does the future hold for Aston Villa?
Good things hopefully! We have money but that dont mean fuck all does it. Look what happened to Leeds and you can buy a trophy like Blackburn did but its not going to last. If the young crop of players stay and O'Neil, we will be up there in a few years.

Ive listened to your songs on your myspace page, and i like the song titled 'I need it now', it has a touch of The Jam. Who's your inspiration?
We all like different bands so theres a bit of every band we like in the tunes probably without us knowing. I can't talk for the other's but i grew up listening to the beatles and that was it until i was about 14/15. I never liked what a lot of my mates was into - garage and hardcore at the time. Sayin that my mates have got good music taste to be fair.

'I need it now' is a song James wrote. It was the first tune we had so it wasn't a bad start. Its got that Jam feel to it i think, its the energy of the tune we caught it well in the demo - not bad for a baggies fan.

How long have your band been together and how did you all meet?
The line up as it is now under a year. I already knew Adam from previous piss-ups and we was looking for a drummer and a guitarist. Adam met James and he said his brother played drums and so Adam told the two of them to come down and that was it.

With Mike Skinner & The Streets, aswell as recently The Twang breaking onto the music scene and coming from Birmingham, When do you think The Deafout will break onto the scene?
That's a hard question mate. There's a lot of good unsigned band's around so all we can do is keep on writeing the tunes we write and we will get noticed if it happens it happens if it dont we was robbed. It's good for brum that these bands are coming out it makes people notice that there's some talent around here - and not just in london.

If people would like to come and see you, do you have any live performances coming up? and how much are tickets?
We do many gigs around Birmingham so the best thing is to check out our myspace page for the latest gig updates. ( http://www.myspace.com/thedeafout )

Once again avillafan.com would like to thank Tim for taking time out of his work to answer our questions and wish him the best of luck in the future.
