The biggest night in the history of Aston Villa F.C.

When villa entered the European cup in 1982 for the first ever time they were seen as under dogs and no one believed they could win the cup.
But on the night of the 26th May 1982, Aston Villa stepped out on to the pitch in the Feyenoord Stadium in Rotterdam with the task of beating Bayern Munich and making the Aston Villa fans dreams become reality. But in the 9th minute disaster struck when Villa's experienced goalkeeper Jimmy Rimmer had to come off and on went rookie goalkeeper Nigel Spink. But as the game went on he made save after save and kept the Germans out.
And then in the 67th minute Villa mustered there first attack after a very much one sided affair. Peter Withe scores to give Villa the lead.
As the game continued Bayern Munich continued to dominate play with attack after attack but failed to score. |
|
Then in the 87th minute the hearts of the Aston Villa supporters were in there mouth's as a through ball ends up reaching Hoeness and he sweeps it past Nigel Spink. But then to the relief of everyone in a villa shirt and all the Aston Villa supporters the goal gets disallowed by the linesman for off-side.
Then the final whistle blows and Aston Villa are crowned champions of europe. One of English football's most famous names was on the lips of fans everywhere: Aston Villa FC, European champions.
The famous night will live on forever in the hearts of all Aston Villa supporters. As on that night Dennis Mortimer's men became only the 4th english club to be successful in the competition.
