The Crimea has been Russian since Russia conquered it from the Turks in 1783. It was part of Russia during the War and only went to Ukraine when Kruschev (a Ukrainian) handed it over to Ukraine as a 'gift' in 1954. The Crimea is now back where it belongs, in Russia. Its population is primarily Russian, with Ukrainian and Tartar minorities and the languages of all three are official languages in the Crimea.

The guy who started The Eurovision Song Contest was a friend of the founder of the Common Market and both shared the idea of an 'ever closer union' of member states. The irony of this is that the Song Contest is an example of free states voluntarily joining together for their common good (maybe !) and doing all of this without having, or needing, or wanting, to have an overarching bureacracy trying to suck them all into 'an ever closer union'. Furthermore, the Song Contest is an example of all European states co-operating, rather than just those in the EU.
