Darren Bent (Loan To Fulham)

My thought are that we need to keep bent and add to the squad in a sensible and steady manner!

But a fit bent can be the difference between where we are now and top 10! i honestly beleive that if bent had not got injured we would not have been close to the relegation zone ion the first place

“Each smallest act of kindness, reverberates across great distances and spans of time --affecting lives unknown to the one who’s generous spirit, was the source of this good echo. Because kindness is passed on and grows each time it’s passed until a simple courtesy becomes an act of selfless courage, years later, and far away. Likewise, each small meanness, each expression of hatred, each act of evil.”

I still think the biggest contributing factor to us getting into a fight was the Bolton game being changed, it sent the mentality in that game from, if we win this we're good for the season to if we don't win this we're in a relegation fight.

Heard on SSN a few weeks back that with Bent in the team we averaged something like 1.3points and without him its 0,7 (not exact but something like that)

I still cant believe people actually think Gabby is more valuable in this team then Bent, if a footballing manager like Martinez does come here then Gabby will be the 1st out as he shouldnt be on a football pitch with hos lack of technique

I tried to put them up but my phone keeps crashing and incant be arsed. What's the most surprising is actually bents. He had a couple above average seasons, one where he scored 17 in all comps the one he got 25 and last where he got 20 in all comps between us and Sunderland. I remember a for few of those being penalties. The year he got 17 gabby Either got 11 or 12 and the year he got 25 gabby got 16. But I bet if you look at the overall of assists and goals combined i bet gabby is above bent on most seasons up until houllier came.

Strikers are judged on goals so goals only and include GH's tenure as Bent was at Spurs under Harry who never liked him, which evens it out

First thing we need to realise is that Gabby is not Bent, then accept that many of us (including me) view Gabby through claret and blue specs to a certain extent.

You cannot compare the two players so i think we should leave it there where Gabby is concerned and focus on the Bent debate

Anyone who thinks we should keep Bent, should also think we should make a run for Dempsey. The reason I say that is because the biggest argument against Dempsey is age and sell on value. Bent is the same case.

I have nothing against Bent, I just think we need to ge younger. IF and only IF someone comes offering similar to what we paid for him, I would say go for it ONLY if those funds a spent on a replacement.

The stat from Raymond is far more relevant than your "9 goals, 1 assist" one. One of the reasons we scored more goals with Bent in the side is because he drags defenders with him when he doesn't have the ball. That opens up space for other players. He also inspires other players with confidence knowing that if they get the ball to him in the box, he's more than likely going to score.

A natural-born goalscorer like Bent is worth at least 80k a week to us. Look at what happened to Sunderland without him before MON arrived. Buying 3-4 average players in his place is not the answer.

Was going to have to same post.

It's Norge fact that bent could bring in far more money to help build the squad. It's like holding onto that girlfriend because you love her so much even if oh know she could kill you lol. If you get what I'm trying to say.

If without selling bent our transfer budget is negligible then it makes more sense to redeem some money on him while we can and using the money to re-build.

Bent would be amazing if we had players to create his chances for him, but we don't, and he doesn't do it himself. I wouldn't mind if he was sold and someone with a little intelligence was making the signings. I read a while ago that for less money than we spent on Bent Newcastle got Demba Ba, Pappis Cisse, Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa.. I'm not saying we could replicate that quality of signing but it stands as a perfect example of what might be possible if we build from scratch rather than attempting to build around Bent.
