Sure it's music to your ears! So who is going to replace him?

Him being Player of the Year as wide of the mark? Please explain. The only person who possibly comes close is Given, but it's not a massive difference, and surely not wide of the mark as you say.

Well Petrov is retired, so of PL is going to give Villa a fresh start, then he needs to sell Ireland and Gabby too so that people on this board can get rid of their bias.

I fully accept that i have a clear dislike for Ireland, it is no great secret!! and i also accept that some will disagree with me and that fine!

Ireland for me has only shown snippets of what he is capable of and it seems clear ot me his heart is not in Villa, he is on record for his opnions about Birmingham.

I just think the Half season of decent form he had is not totally disimilar to the good half a season Gabby had! and look how he is being treated by many Villa Fans, its only the fact that Gabby played well in the first half and Ireland in the 2nd half! it being fresh in the mind gives advantage

And the bit i have underlined was not really warrented was it??

“Each smallest act of kindness, reverberates across great distances and spans of time --affecting lives unknown to the one who’s generous spirit, was the source of this good echo. Because kindness is passed on and grows each time it’s passed until a simple courtesy becomes an act of selfless courage, years later, and far away. Likewise, each small meanness, each expression of hatred, each act of evil.”

will be disappointed to see Ireland go tbh, i still think he has alot to offer us and fear selling off more of bents supply line isnt going to help in us keeping hold of him either.

I think it all depends on whether Lambert has a replacement in mind.

Personally I'm worried that either way this is going to take a chunk out if the kitty that we could have spent elsewhere.

I wasn't a fan of Ireland prior to this season, and I wouldn't call him one of my favorite players now, but I recognise talent. He was a great player at City and was sold against his will....... let's not forget that. It took 18 months but he found his form again.

Week in and week out he was one of the hardest workers out on the pitch, but he had no proper DM behind him, and no consistant play from the wings. When we played like garbage on the road, wasn't he one of the only players to come over and thank the fans? Even some of the homegrown players wouldn't do that.

My point is that I believe he has turned the corner. Unless RL is splashing massive funds, I don't think we have the luxury to let Ireland leave.....especially for 4mil. Like it or not, he was "selected" as our POY and we need to stop this trend of letting those leave (Downing, Milner).

As far as my bias comment you underlined, can you really say that there isn't a rampant amount of biased views towards some players? Until his illness it was Petrov. Gabby has been a recent target. Even RL and PF have had there share as well. No matter what any of them do, to many they are absolute class or absolute crap.

Instead of just discussing the club we all love, it often turns into a bicker-fest when one of these biased views is made whether its in favor of or against the player.

"Lions roar, not whimper. You're the hunters, not the hunted. Now get out there to f*ck and bring home the points because if you don't bring home the bacon you get treated like a pig. Pigs belong in the sty and that shithole's down the road. We're the pride of Birmingham so FFS make Brum proud tonight." -AnneMc

I'd be gutted to see him leave, he was easily our best player in 2012, he was the only one who looked like he could create something when he had the ball, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he is our MF that won the ball back the most once he got in the team.

I think that with better tactics he could be great for us.

You will always get opinons from both ends of the spectrum and these thoughts/feelings will often make folk clash when talking of Villa, I bet at some stage every Villa fan has walked out the stadium hearing the many fans leaving talking about who played well and who did not, and hear someone say a comment about a player that is at total opposite of what you thought!

always gonna happen!

But consider this regarding Ireland, 2 years left on his contract, will undoubtly be looking to leave at the end of the coming season as he does not like the City and has not really found any consistant form that made him Man City player of the year and if he sees the contract ut we will lose revenue!

His wage demands are the most critical part of any thinking when selling or keeping him! the money freed up could allow PL more movement in the transfer market

Would be more beneficial to sell Gabby as they are on the same wages and Ireland offers us more and has proved he can playe at a high level. He will relish playing under PL as he wont be running back and can rely on running towards goal. He was our player of the year and he still hasnt got into top gear, with 2 good cm's behind him he can cause real danger to defences

If Ireland is going to the MLS for recognition he is in for a rude awakening. I live by DC and I bet most people at my college couldn't name 5 players in the MLS, let alone 1 on DC United (Just a side note: DC United has the league MVP Dwayne DeRosario). I think most American fans follow England, Spain, and Italy more than our very own MLS. WHAT AN IDIOT if he chooses to go there!!!!

Doesn't that apply to Gabby, Albrighton, Bannon etc surely their wage demands come into the equation???? I would get rid of those 3 and keep Ireland. If Gabby is so Villa, then surely he will take a pay cut from 60k a week and play for his beloved club for 15k a week. Let's see where his loyalties lie....AVFC or Barclays bank (or wherever his paycheck goes)

i'd definitely keep him. very poor start to his villa career, but i think he showed enough this season under difficult season, in a very negative team.

In many games he was our only player who looked comfortable on the ball, the only creativity we had, could pick a pass, and was able to do simple one touch passing, and actually retain the ball.

it all depends if he fits in Lamberts plans, but if Lambert likes him, and shows a bit of confidence in him he could be a big big player for us.

If we got 4 million for him, i dont see how or who we could afford or entice to the club, who is equally comfortable on the ball, and has the creativity/passing. He is on big wages, but is worth a full pre-season under PL.

With a proper manager at the helm this season instead of the 'genius' of McTit ("the more games u lose, the more games u don't win"), PL could well be tactically astute enough to get the best out of Ireland, which is only a good thing for Gabby, Bent, etc on the receiving end of his creativity
