i hope this is lies

It's mentioned in the 'latest news' section of the official Villa website today too. I don't like the guy and don't think Villa should expect any loyalty from him but rate him as a player and would like him to stay. Money talks and he's also a player who craves admiration so can see it happening. Just another rumour at this stage. Ireland isn't out of contract this summer, is he? I didn't think he was so it's probably not close to a "done deal", as suggested in the article.

Disagree

67k for a creative midfielder which we lack and is so vital to the getting anything out of AM's tactics is not much. He's been healthy and only gotten better as the season has gone on and has been our best player since December.

People constantly complain about us selling off our talent, this would be another case of that. I was all for getting rid of him when he wasn't producing, but that has changed. No only is his play there, but the dude has been all over the pitch. The effort is there. 6 mil for him now? No F&@kin way!

We can replace CB's, wingers, and even a striker like Bent in AM's system. But finding a creative midfielder like Ireland is not that easy. Keep in mind that Man U and all their resources had to get old man Scholes out of retirement because they couldn't find one. Not saying they would want Ireland, but when you find that guy who fits your system, you keep him. Plain and simple.

MLS is for aging has-beens like Ballack.

So I guess you were against signing Robbie Keane then?

I know there are some who still hope for big things from Ireland and maybe my personal bias against him is influencing my take on this? but i really think that the small improvement in recent months is no reason to be looking to keep a player ( and lets be fair) who has been pretty much a waste of time in a Villa shirt and taking a very high wage for the privilege.

He is now at a stage in his Villa career where his value will drop drastically if allowed to enter the final 18 months of his contract, and if we can get a decent price for him (5 to 8 million) i still think we should take it and move on. with wages saved as the money in a transfer fee we could get a much less tempermental and more consistent Player in his place......for much less in wages as well!

Because kindness is passed on and grows each time it’s passed until a simple courtesy becomes an act of selfless courage, years later, and far away. Likewise, each small meanness, each expression of hatred, each act of evil.”

Against the signing? Yes, just like most of the board was. He had done very little since his original stint at Spurs (before the move to Liverpool). It didn't make a lot of sense to bring him on when his only success in years had been in the SPL and MLS.

He was also brought in right as Ireland was starting to improve and settle into that central role. I thought we were taking a two month gamble at the expense of the progress Ireland was making. Keane was great for us while he was here and I will fully admit my change of heart about him being here. I'm just glad that Ireland continued his form after Keanes departure.

I have stated on here before that I think we should bring Keane back on a permanent deal in the summer for the exact reason I have already stated. Keane and Ireland fit our system. Ireland has had fitness issues and Keane is on the wrong side of 30. They could cover that central role for us for the next year at least with a minimal investment.

If Ireland is sold, where are we then? We don't have that central player right now. Selling him would be stupid........UNLESS he is pulling a Downing and forcing a move. I hope not. I would really like him to continue his improvement.

A player his age going to MLS shows a complete lack of ambition.

Pigs belong in the sty and that shithole's down the road. We're the pride of Birmingham so FFS make Brum proud tonight." -AnneMc

That is your personal bias though Loyal. He is more vital to this team then petrov. As soon as Petrov is kicked out this club and a midfielder with energy is bought in and Ireland then given the freedom to attack he will then become our creative force and will supply more for Bent. Petrov is the player holding back our great club

Lambert ready to hear offers of 4 million + for Ireland!

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/premier-league-aston-villa-will-accept-871546

Have never taken to him and him being player of the season was so wide of the mark its not even funny!

Sure it's music to your ears! So who is going to replace him?

Him being Player of the Year as wide of the mark? Please explain. The only person who possibly comes close is Given, but it's not a massive difference, and surely not wide of the mark as you say.

Well Petrov is retired, so of PL is going to give Villa a fresh start, then he needs to sell Ireland and Gabby too so that people on this board can get rid of their bias.
