Latest update -

Shay Given faces an anxious wait to see if he can regain his fitness ahead of the FA Cup final.

Stopper Given, who has played every round on the way to Wembley, injured his groin in training on the eve of the Burnley clash.

Boss Tim Sherwood elected to give Jed Steer a run-out - as the former Norwich keeper made his first Barclays Premier League start in claret and blue.

But the manager confirmed that Brad Guzan will be between the sticks at the national stadium if Given misses out.

He told the press: "Brad will play [in the final if Given misses out].

"I have no idea what his chances are right now.

"We are assessing him each day. We are not ruling him out yet."

As for Steer's chances in the final, Sherwood added: "You wouldn't want to throw Jed in.

"He's not got a lot of experience in cup finals.

"The injury to Shay gave us an opportunity to look at Jed.

"If Shay wasn't to make it and Brad was to get injured we would have a problem."

Not really showing a lot of confidence in Steer is he.

Steer played for Yeovil in the cup against Man utd so is cup tied isn't he.

Didn't know that Zeewulf so thanks for that.

I guess I've just been talking bollocks again.

I'm hoping Sherwood remembers otherwise we are in the s**t if he plays him.

Shay Given moving to Middlesbrough was mentioned last year (see Post #61, above).

Good Luck and Thank You for your services to Aston Villa, Shay Given.

Skysports - Middlesbrough to re-sign Shay Given, Stewart Downing in sights

It was mentioned when he was 3rd choice and not playing

He finished the season our 1st choice
