Sherwood has not yet ruled out the possibility of a contract extension after watching Bent bag 12 goals in 17 appearances for Derby

Interesting one this.

If we stay in the Premiership I think Bent will either end up at one of the promoted teams or he might be offered something at Derby?

Can't see him being offered a new deal here.

Already has apparently. He told the Birmingham Mail about a month ago that he had sat down and spoke with Tim Sherwood who has put a deal on the table for him.

Twitter is in meltdown at the moment because he isn't back in training, but I can see where TS is coming from. Everyone knows who and want Bent is capable of. Bent has a decision to make about his future so there is no point making him train with the club and potentially unsettling anyone if he decides it doesn't lie with Aston Villa.

I'd agree with Morph, I think the negotiations with Bent were based on relegation and a massive pay cut.

I know Bent scored goals for Derby but having watched them when I could this season, Keogh and Hendrick for Ireland, I have to say the team performances dis-improved radically when he was in the team. He got peno's and poachers goals but his lack of involvement in general build up always made them look short of players in attack.

I personally don't want him to stay, he's past his sell by date and is a player of the past not one for the future.

I'm not Bents greatest fan because i feel he is very limited, but if we are paying his wages we should have him training with the squad....what happens if Benteke is injured, Gabby ( if fit ) or Weimann up front ?

We now have players who could supply Bent, so keep him around for a few weeks. It can't do any harm but it just might do us some good.
