avstu 263
2020 has been a pretty crappy year but one of the very few positives have been Aston Villa. So what are your top three highlights of 2020 and why? Quote "Winning isn't everything, but it beats anything that comes in second." - Paul Bryant
avstu 263
Our writer John Townley picked Jack Grealish and his progression in 2020 as his highlight: ‘Jack from Solihull’ – A 2020 to remember for Aston Villa’s local lad Cast your mind back to 2015, Donald Trump officially launched his Republican presidential campaign and five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant announced his retirement from basketball – 2020 has been an unfamiliar and testing time for us all. Almost six years ago, it was also the footballing birth of Aston Villa’s new prodigy, with bare calfs flashing, a slicked back undercut and number 40 hanging off his back – his unique style would soon resonate with this iconic club. The 2015 FA Cup final was perfectly set up on Steven Gerrard’s birthday, but Christian Benteke, Fabian Delph and Co would be the party poopers, with Jack Grealish playing the magician, pulling yellow shirts left to right, taking the game at the grandest of stages by the scruff of the neck. Liverpool would fall to a 2-1 loss to Tim Sherwood’s Villa in a game that will be remembered for many years to come. ------------------------------------------ Read More ------------------------------------------ Quote "Winning isn't everything, but it beats anything that comes in second." - Paul Bryant
avstu 263
Ardan Beveridge's highlight came in the form of Aston Villa's recruitment: Aston Villa’s Fabulous Five – 2020 Recruitment turning Villa around In the summer of 2019, Aston Villa reached a net spend of £144.5 million. Twelve new faces arrived into the dressing room – fusing various cultures, languages and personalities. Sporting director, Jesus Garcia Pitarch (Suso), had been tasked with replacing 18 senior players who were departing the club in the summer. A mammoth recruitment scheme was given the green light by club owners, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, as Chief Executive Christian Purslow loosened the purse strings. Villa were back in the Premier League and after three years away, we’re ready to prove their might. ------------------------------------------ Read More ------------------------------------------ Quote "Winning isn't everything, but it beats anything that comes in second." - Paul Bryant
avstu 263
Liam Mucklow's comes in the form of that 7-2 win over Liverpool.. Villa demolish the champions! – Game of 2020 2020 has been, by any measure, a car crash of a year. The entire world has been in the grip of a deadly pandemic which has immeasurably altered and restricted the way we live our lives. Yet, in the midst of all this, Aston Villa have been a beacon of hope, exhilaration, and at times, pure unadulterated joy. Dean Smith’s men looked beyond redemption when Leicester bulldozed their way through them to record a resounding 4-0 win back in March. As it happened, this would be the last top-flight game prior to an enforced period of absence, and no side would use that time better than Villa. What followed during Project Restart was a remarkable, scarcely believable escape from the jaws of relegation, secured by the skin of their teeth on the final day of last season. ------------------------------------------ Read More ------------------------------------------ Quote "Winning isn't everything, but it beats anything that comes in second." - Paul Bryant
Apollo 167
Surviving on the final day! It was like winning a cup final! as I really thought we were down. The new players we brought in. For the first time in years I have been excited by the signings we made. smashing Liverpool! To knock the pool fans of their high horse was an amazing feeling! 😂
dorset lion 391
All of the above combine to create the best of them all....I have a club to be proud of again, never stopped loving them but living nowhere near Villa Park and being mocked by Bournemouth fans was taking its toll. 10 years of just taking consolation in not being a bluenose was wearing a bit thin ! UP THE VILLA
