12/10/2018 : From yesterday, the article below analyses Dean Smith's record at Brentford and compares it to the performances of AVFC at the same time. The main thing holding Brentford back were the sales of key players, something that should not happen at Aston Villa ... the predators can GTF.

Skysports - What will Dean Smith bring to Aston Villa?

We have far to many midfielders not putting a shift in . We need wingers to track back and people to work and press Ball ds has to put this right or we will get relegated

Purslow is well aware that he got some one in to buy the players. And it’s failed badly he should also be held accountable

Smith isnt going anywhere. This side will fall apart before this board sack him. The Cup Final glosses over the non show this season. I said in the Southampton match chat that too many times

Interesting you say that Larry and you may be right. However. They said similar on TalkSPORT yesterday and their fans argued that every player sold for a healthy profit has been replaced by a cheaper better player.

Stu, As SG stated regarding Tavernier at Rangers, every player has his price, but equally, potential buyers had better pay big money to get him, or any other player. That is true for the players at AVFC too, but even during the financial uncertainty in the summer, the Club did not do a panic sale. With the sound financial footing that new ownership has brought to AVFC, player sales due to financial pressures should not happen. That just leaves us with sales due to a player wanting to leave or, a surplus of players in one position or, a player not fitting into the playing philosophy of the Club, all of which are par for the course. If Dean Smith can profitably replace current players with cheaper, better (and probably younger) players, who have a longer 'shelf life', then that will be all to the good for AVFC.

I really hope he can get something out of Hogan, because that is a very expensive player to have seen nothing out of so far. I am confident.  I think he will.  I also hope Smith can sort out the Micah Richards situation, but I won't hold my breath on that one.  Who knows, he might even be able to unscramble McCormack's head when he comes back.

Don't think we'll see much of Glen Whelan now.,  but probably more of Scott Hogan scoring goals

PS,  absolutely delighted with the appointments

Hello Patrick, onwards and upwards!

"This is not possible. What McGrath is doing is just not possible with the amount of preparation that he's had."

I quite agree I think alot of the older members of the team will be exiting the team in the coming months, McCormack maybe given another chance I think. Never know what might happen under the right manager. Striker wise Smith's certainly got a few options. McCormack never featured much under Bruce, they had fall out early on and since then McCormack not really been a fair whip. When he first came under Di Matteo he didn't have a great start but then again, neither did so many that Di Matteo signed.

Yes McCormack was never going to play for Bruce again after the public humiliation over the gate affair when Bruce hung him out to dry.   I can see him making every effort to get fully fit now and to challenge for start in the first team. He can score goals and you never forget where the net is.
