FFP

Recommended Posts

What are everyone's views on FFP?

It was originally started to prevent richer clubs from buying the title and prevent smaller clubs from spending money they don't have. From what I can see all it is doing is making the richer clubs more powerful and the small clubs suffer more.

Football is supposed to be about the supporters and we shouldn't have to worry about the financial side of the game yet as Villa fans every potential transfer or contract seems to be followed by a comment about FFP.

I don't like FFP, it was a cynical attempt to stop clubs breaking up the cosy little cartel that had been created by the top clubs wanting to protect their Champions League cash cow.........It makes no odds to me whether a club is paying players £500,000 a week because of a rich owner or shirt sales in Abu Dhabi, either way clubs like this one with history's and fan bases that not so long ago matched anyone's cannot compete and clubs like Forest can't rise from nowhere due to good management.

If FFP should do anything it should stop owners running up huge debts and dumping them on the club.

If we had a system of pay based more on bonuses which a player earned through number of games played and the clubs success on the pitch the modern day phenomena of players taking the f**cking p*ss might end....Gabby, Micah and McCormack must be stiffing this club for millions, you watch the fucker get over his gate if his basic wage is £500 a week without a bonus, ditto flabby who would suddenly find the will power to drive past the drive through.

FFP was brought in to reign in the english clubs, our dominance of the champions league quarters and semi's was rubbing some of the big italian clubs up the wrong way. The likes of Milan got their wish, short sighted as it was they soon learned it was more of a hamper to them than before.

FFP is a joke, if an owner wishes to make a substantial "investment" into his own business then nobody should have the power to stop him, the everyday running of the club should be sustainable from what the club brings in, transfers shouldnt count if its coming direct from the owners pocket and not out of the clubs account.

FFP will hold us back again in the Championship next season,  but if we go up we'll get over 100 million from sky so  it won't  bother us at all

So no-one likes FFP - But how could we change things for the better?

Bring through more of our own talent instead of spending millions  on players like Micah Richards and McCormack and paying them a fortune each week.

that only works if A, our academy kids sign for us and not one of the big boys B. our academy is producing enough talent year on year and C, will we have the right manager to nurture these kids into regular first team players.

Should the FA look at ways at protecting the academy players more then?

Yes because the big clubs poach them.  On that subject , but slightly off topic,   Jack grealish has been with Villa since he was a little schoolboy. Worst scenario and nightmare,  we don't get promotion and a big club comes in for Jack in the summer. He has a contract with us until 2020 , how much would we get for him.  ? .. Surely at today's prices it would be 50 million plus.

I'd like to see a minimum number of home grown players have to feature in every match day squad, that would ensure every club putting resources into its academy and also make simply buying success that little bit harder.
