The Parking / Match Day Travel Thread

I was waiting at the steps, as soon as whistle I pegged it back to car which is was 3 min walk from ground (only reason as I got to car park at 2:57 so was one of the the last to park and I knew I was gonna be virtually first out) and I rang my Mrs from tesco sheldon which is 600 yards from my house at 5:10. That's the only occasion it's happened, normally I'm home around 5:30ish. Saturday I took the train and took forever, Tuesday I drove and hot home at 10:45pm. Swings and roundabouts is the saying.

no way gaz , i used to live in ward end and it was at least a 15 minute drive from the ground even in the middle of the night with no traffic  , and then it would be another 20 to solihull

Why would anyone wanna lie or exaggerate about getting home. If I wanted to do either is say it about the bookies.

It is rare for a game to finish before 4-55 these days so to be home 15 minutes from the final whistle considering your distance seems rather optimistic in the extreme .

even Patrick with his blue lights flashing wouldn't achieve such a feat .

If any of you knew me personally you'd know I'm not one to advocate lies, in fact it's a pet hate of mine, my kids will tell you that. I don't mind a wind up and like to have banter but to publicly call me a lier I find rather offensive!!!!!

Maybe that day I was in a deloreon and when I hit 88mph on wash wood Heath rd I must of gone forward in time and landed at tesco!

Nobody would call you a liar doc - just saying it seems very optimistic - maybe your timings are slightly awry?

For the last 5 weeks it has been chaos getting onto the Aston Expressway from Birmingham city centre or Aston, because only 2 lanes have been open on the approach to the M6 north and south ,,,,,The work was due to finish this week and all 3 lanes would have been open again , Now for the bad news , 3 days ago they said the work is over running and the Aston expressway  will continue to have only 2 lanes open towards spaghetti until September the 19th ,,,,,,,This is very bad news for Villa fans as we play forest on sun the 11th and brentford on wednesday the 14th of sep. ,, There will be long delays for anyone trying to get on the M6 if you dont follow these guidlines

Avoid the Aston Expressway at all costs and remember you can't get on to the M6 from  Lichfield road / spaghetti junction

Avoid the official diversions

Dont go down the A47 heartlands spine road that runs parallel with the M6 and past the fort shopping centre

Avoid the A34 towards the Scott arms and Junction 7 of the M6

FAO FREDDY  , or anyone going to Cov

Not sure where you usually park but the best bet for a quick getaway is the Thimble Mill lane area by aston manor brewery , free parking if you get there an hour before kick off plus several car parks on businesses that charge about a fiver for piece of mind

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.4991404,-1.8712246,17z

After the match go up the hill away from Villa Park and go straight over 2 islands , then do a left under a bridge (saltley road A47)

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/52.4989246,-1.8722326/100+Saltley+Road,+Birmingham+B7+4TE,+UK/@52.4956613,-1.8748059,16z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m9!4m8!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x4870bb689d2b9317:0x3c27dbc5fb6b038d!2m2!1d-1.8686062!2d52.4924548!3e0

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.4927605,-1.8703046,3a,75y,197.41h,77.8t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sUUj1TlTnvwapO5ab5quMaQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

At the next island take the 2nd exit , B4114 , for ward end /washwood heath ( do not go down road where it says A47 and M6)

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/100+Saltley+Road,+Birmingham+B7+4TE,+UK/52.4941009,-1.8556458/@52.4930945,-1.8664903,16z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1!1s0x4870bb689d2b9317:0x3c27dbc5fb6b038d!2m2!1d-1.8686062!2d52.4924548!1m0!3e0

Stay on B4114 Washwood Heath road and straight on at Fox and Goose  following signs for Castle Bromwich  and the M6 where you get on Junction 5 and leave at 3 or 2

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/The+Fox+%26+Goose+(Stand+WF)/52.5059915,-1.798404/52.494032,-1.8347739/@52.4958479,-1.8338298,15z/data=!4m10!4m9!1m5!1m1!1s0x4870bae6375c64e3:0x3378b9a895c07d0c!2m2!1d-1.819688!2d52.493263!1m0!1m0!3e0

FAO OF RICH

Nor sure where you park Rich ,, some good spots near the sacred heart

After the match , your best bet is get on the A34 towards perry barr and walsall ,,, but get in the left hand lane and take the A453 (sutton coldfield) at the split in the underpass by the crown and cushion / one stop shopping centre DO NOT TAKE the A34 walsall ,

Follow it round , past the greyhound dog track and  under the motorway then do a left when you see this sign  (streetly , kingstanding B4138)

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.5296116,-1.8931927,3a,37.5y,58.58h,86.46t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1stOxtz7_-vpAiwP_0X_tsOg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

straight over at kingstanding circle roundabout  (3rd exit ) following signs for Streetly ,, keep going straight till you come to T junction and do a left

Your are now on the A452 chester  road to Brownhills,,  follow that all the way to Brownhills

At Brownhills go down  the high st , to the big tin man miners statue  ,carry on A452 , then you come to the rising sun island where you take the A5 to Cannock

At Cannock you can take the A460 to the M6 junction 11 , but its just as quick to stay on the A5 to junction 12 ,,, then get off at 13

There is another alternative route for you freddy , after the match get on the A34 towards Birmingham city centre , go past the Barton arms , past the royal mail building then do a left at the ring road   A4540 and follow the signs  B'ham , NEC , A45 and plane logo

 https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.4924255,-1.8954895,3a,37.5y,187.9h,88.23t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sCA1QtnLA92Nv_2dbGh1Imw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

you get on the A45 near the blues ground small heath and as you know it takes you all the way to tollbar island

Cheers Patrick,  missed this thread,so could,nt reply to your enquiry--apologies,am not at home (in sunkissed Skegness) have tried several spots to park at since The Addies was prematurely closed, most recently on the road that leads to Ali,Baba,s,--cos its fairly close to M6 --when i get home i,ll check out your routes and may well try them both v Forest and B,ford --and will let you know how i get on,  must say the A45 one sounds the easiest --especially in the dark,

many thanks again --and should you hear eventually that the M6 is finally sorted PLEASE help save Richie boy and my sanity and make a posting!!!!,
