It wasn't the first time I've watched Man Utd dick us and I know it won't be the last, but it's irrelevant who we played, we were abject, again. United didn't break a sweat yesterday and neither did

furthest North they've been!!!

I'm a little like that. I think I will be more upset if we don't have a go and lose though. Spurs in the league we didn't even try and I felt that was a missed opportunity. Just have a go lads - it's

Hi guys,

Really understand the comments here, it is not good when you watch your team week in and week out, apparently playing negative football, no passing, no movement off teh ball, no one running at players with the ball, individual players getting frustrated and trying to do it all by themseves.

On that last point there were a number of times Gabby, KEA had the ball and instead of slipping it in to Benteke who had a forward position, they chose to shoot instead.

But, let's look through the team we have played this year-

Defenders:

How much have we suffered without Vlaar in the squad? 7 goals in 2.5 games shows us how much we need him.

And don't forget our other first choice centre back, Okore. Would we have been better defensively if we had them both back? I think so.

Baker always gives 100%, the amount of times he puts his body on the line is incredible, but it did look like he was carrying an injury and may not be at his best.

Clark has good games and bad games, we know he has the talent, but maybe not ready to be first choice.

If Okore and Vlaar are fit, I don;t see either Baker or Clark being in the first team.

Lowton has gone off form offensively, and he was never the best defensively. I don't think we really have had a proper right back since Fernando Nelson.

Bacuna and Luna - neither of them have the speed to keep up with anyone, they always come in second best.

We don't have speedy wing backs, so maybe they need to learn to be better position wise?

Midfield:

Almost nobody passes forward in our midfield. Reminds me of Mark Draper. It's like we don't or can't see the forward pass. Part of the problem is that nobody moves off the ball. I know Westwood is always calling for the ball in the middle of the park, but he doesn't pick anyone out to pass to after, and usually loses the ball as a result.

Delph and Albrighton are the only players I have seen moving and passing forward this season. That's the centre of midfield and one wing covered offensively. We need someone on the other wing and someone else to break up the opposition play in the centre. And Delph needs to stop getting silly yellow cards.

KEA, Westwood both need to practise getting the target from that area in fron of the box. They get themselves in the right position, but always go for power with no direction. Each game there is at least 3 or 4 opportunities where they sky the ball instead of at least hitting the target. Imagine what an extra 3 or 4 goals a game would have done for us!?!?

Attack:

Benteke has been heavily marked this season. No one has given him any space, and he is frequently double or even triple teamed. Having said that, he has not been good finding other players like he was last year. Remember the backheel to Weimann at Anfield last year? None of that this year. Is it a confidence thing? Only him and PL would know.

Gabby, Weimann are not wingers. They have speed, but they are speedy attackers, not speedy dribblers. Having said that, they are capable of that, but it doesn't look like their forte. Reember when we had Young and Downing on each flank, and DB9 was banging them in to keep us up? We don't have that anymore.

At the end of the day, we do have good players, but I think having Okore and now Vlaar out has really hurt the team. A team that is solid defensively, takes a bit of pressure off the rest of the team to chase the game every time.

I realise that spending 450 pounds for a season ticket every year to see players play poorly must sting. But it's all about perspective - would you rather have the chance to see Aston Villa at Villa Park every season or not ever have the chance to see your beloved Claret and Blue and have to get up at all hours of the night to see a poor stream on your phone from the only network that shows it? If I had the choice, I know which one I'd pick everytime!

I understand why 100%, we've been crap but IMO that frustration is from not looking at the big picture and being impatient.
Ive watched on now for the last 4-5 games as different people (myself included) have debated heavily with you and you have made several points which I don't always agree but respect as everyone is entitled to there opinion. One common thing you have said is the 'bigger picture'. Let's look at the bigger picture. I have been a season ticket holder for a long time now and if we go back to Martin O'Neill we as fans were on one hell of a roller coaster enjoying every minute of it. Since then (3-4 years) we have watched the club we all love, and spent hard earned cash that some of us have to sacrifice other things in order to get there week in week out, to see the quality of both the football and players rapidly decline only to hear the manager come out with the same old crap and excuses and then we are accused of being impatient? I don't think so. Yes I get the point what your trying to say but if you want to look at the bigger picture, let's look at the whole picture. Fans are becoming very bored of the same old errors from the same players, and the same excuses from the manager. People don't look forward to going down to villa park at the moment but still drag themselves there to support the club they love. It's not a nice place to be at this moment in time. The fans look drained from empty promises and boring football. Lambert came in and refused to promise were we was heading as a club which most just accepted and wanted progress but what he did promise was to give youth a chance which he has to an extent but can't drop one player for something and no another. He promised to play exciting and enjoyable football - we are currently the worst in the league in terms of style. He promised to sort out the woeful and embarrassing home form and in fact it's probably the worst it's ever been. That is the bigger picture and that is why there are so many unhappy fans right now!

Question, are they the current EPL champions and flying in the champions league??

Just in case no one is sure the answer is yes!

Thats a good way to motivate the lads. No point in them even playing yday going by what you posted

Think I have already commented on Benteke's performance or lack thereof! Man U are still a world class team and I did not expect anything but this reaction to the defeat! Forgetting we are without out first choice centre backs and midfielders!! Move on and let's look to games we have a chance of getting results
We did that at Fulham away last week ,, oh and Sunderland at home,, oh and we are doing the same for stoke away .

I actually thought we were improved (improved, not good) against Man U compared to the absolute rubbish we dished up the previous two matches, particularly Fulham. We actually looked like we were trying to hold the ball and pass it around instead of just lumping it upfield all the time. Some players don't seem to have the ability to hold the ball up nor the desire to move to space to receive the ball which hisnhers mentioned in an earlier post and is a real problem for mine. LB is a real problem for us and I think teams are targeting us there the same way they did down Lowtons side last season, an real problem as well. Vlaar and Okore fit are good centre backs and Baker and Clark are good deputies still learning their trade but not what you want as first choice yet. Really don't rate KEA at all, doesn't track back, a poor passer and takes bad options. We urgently need another midfielder with some composure and ability to hold up a ball and pick a pass to help Delph out. I'd also be playing Kozak in tandem with Benteke because he's picked up some handy goals already and it might force other teams to spread their marking instead of focusing on one player. Hopefully instead of spending £20 mill on a number of players Lambert will get the ok to pick up two £10 million quality players in the summer, they could just be the difference!

It wasn't the first time I've watched Man Utd dick us and I know it won't be the last, but it's irrelevant who we played, we were abject, again.

United didn't break a sweat yesterday and neither did Liverpool, Newcastle, Spurs or Everton... We are absolutely dire and I'd argue that we've played just as badly as that in games against City and Southampton that we won. We've also played that badly against West Ham and Sunderland and managed to hold out for a 0-0. It's absolutely pathetic.

When have we genuinely given a good performance this season? Arguably Chelsea... Maybe Arsenal, but it's worth remembering that we had two penalties and a break away goal against ten men that day.

Yes we've had tough home games, but we've also failed to beat West Ham, Hull, West Brom, Sunderland and Fulham - All teams that I have marked down as "three sides worse than us". We've relied on lucky wins to paper over the cracks and when that luck runs out we'll be in trouble.

We have absolutely no idea going forward. Our ball retention is sh*t, we don't create anything or look threatening. Not just against United, but against everyone. The only reason we beat Cardiff was Bacuna's free kick.

There are loads of players who should be dropped, but who do we replace them with? Our squad is crap. There's no quality in our side at all.

The most disappointing thing about yesterday is that the performance was exactly the same as we've seen all season. Dull, blunt, flat. As soon as we go behind we've had it because we all know that we don't have it in us to create anything to get back into the game. If my car wasn't blocked in yesterday I'd have gone at half time.

The football, not just yesterday, but all season, has been just as bad as anything served up under McLeish.

Stoke, Palace and Swansea... Hopefully we can scrape a win there somewhere to give us some breathing space. If not it could be a long second half of the season. We must be playing some of the worst football in the division?
