  1. That explanation makes sense and I know we have a set piece specialist working with the team, I still think it became too predictable though and not well executed.
  2. It was gruelling to watch at times and I thought we were very nervy again including Steer who looked uncomfortable but ended up being the hero with two fantastic saves. Job done is all that matters but the coaching team really need to sort out some of the decisions that were made by the team like Hourihane taking a free that was more suited to Grealish, Abraham taking a free out of nowhere, corners short nearly every single time despite our goal threat from set pieces when the ball is put in the box and repeatedly making the same mistake over and over again playing it carelessly out from the back when we were under serious pressure. Even with the red we kept trying long range shots or overdoing it around the box, the one ball that was whipped in from the side from Elmo nearly resulted in a goal. The fact that we are even in a final though is all down to Smith turning the fortunes of the team around so no matter he's done a brilliant job and the players have shown brilliant character throughout so well done to all. For the final I think this match showed Green is best used as an impact sub for now, always seems to cause problems when he comes on later in the game but can struggle a bit over a whole game.
  3. First half we weren't our usual selves. Subs were a big turning point, terrific strike from Hourihane. Baggies put a lot into that and to come away with nothing and Gayle now suspended is a huge blow. Still all to play for but we did what we had to today.
  4. Nice words Mike and congrats.
  5. Hard one to judge. It would be great to keep the good momentum going, I think a few small changes like starting Hourihane and Green might be a good idea but keep the spine of the team strong.
  6. Championship has been one of the best things to happen as a fan. After years of crap it was great to see us winning games, 10 in a row who would have thought it. Was only saying to some of the lads how uninterested I have become in the premier league since we've gone down. Championship is far more entertaining and passionate. Let's face it 90% of the time going to one of the big teams like City you know your not going to get anything. Having said all that if we want to keep watching players like Grealish in a Villa jersey we need to go up and there have been days like when we lost to Wigan where I thought this a right cesspit of a league.
  7. Another really solid win, well done Villa!
  8. Great spirit and character from the team to comeback from 1-0 down away from home and with 10 men. I have savaged this team for their like of character in the past but they have proved me wrong last night. Full credit to the team and Dean Smith, I thought he rotated the team well and is perfectly managing the likes of Whelan.
  9. Agree with this, I think giving Whelan a rest and bringing fresh legs into the team was so important against Forest and it paid off. Would also like to see Green keep his place. I'd also consider giving Kodjia a start again if nothing else just to freshen it up.
  10. That's absolutely shocking, though we don't know the details and I don't think you could call it a Villa problem more a wider reflection of the huge knife culture and problem at the moment. Too many scumbags happy to use a knife. Watching the match last night I thought the atmosphere was electric and our fans were brilliant. I was over for a match against Wolves a couple of years ago and two Wolves supporters went by us with a stanley blade, thankfully we had no trouble with them but what possesses someone to bring a blade to a football match.
  11. Don't want to get carried away but we look really good at the moment. I had given up all hope of the play-offs but we were excellent tonight. All we can do is keep winning our own games and forget about what happens around us. Fair play to Smith, selection was spot on tonight with fresh legs brought in.
  12. I've seen @CornyAVFC with something similar!
  13. So much admiration for Grealish the way he handled the punch and the now standard crunch at the start. Refs need to be stronger when dealing with the obvious targeting of him, he will be seriously hurt again in one of those tackles. It's beyond a joke and becoming dangerous for him to play in this division. To score the wining goal and celebrate with our fans was just magic, one of the best moments as a Villa fan in a long long time. He will go all the way to the top, what a pro. Blues are just pure scum, they'll never beat us at this rate! Not a great performance but in the circumstances a huge win. It was good to see Hourihane get stuck into the fan when he came on and Mings was outstanding again. The team seemed together and I actually felt proud of them yesterday.
  14. Quite right Freddy. I really hate to bang on about Bruce but it still rankles me the state he left us in as an ex defender. It was reckless.
  15. I certainly hope so. As long as we're in this division I hope we never see any mega deals like MCormack again.
