  1. Delighted with Mings, not bothered at all with the price on this one. We know exactly what we are getting and he fits right in. Until Mings came in our defence was leaking goals to an extent that would have cost us promotion. For the style we play under Smith you need somebody like Mings to organise and lead at the back and sometimes be able to put your body on the line or make a last ditch tackle. Reminds me a bit of Puyol at Barcelona.
  2. Anyone have an idea of how good this guy is? Just looking at him he never seems to have played more then about 15 games in a season with only a handful most seasons and why would Southampton want to sell a presumably young talent. It all seems a little strange to me and a lot to pay especially looking at Arsenal's valuation of Kieran Tierney for the same price and he is the real deal but I'm entirely open to being completely wrong in my scepticism.
  3. Good to keep continuity, good move. Some very positive signs coming from Villa Park. Great to see season tickets heading for the 30k mark too.
  4. With the amount of players leaving and that we need to sign I just hope we have our business done as early as possible.
  5. Had some brilliant days following Villa in the championship, great away followings, good atmosphere at most grounds, anybody could beat anybody and it felt like proper football unlike the sanitised corporate product Sky force down us. The apologising for bad language in the stands, crap kick off times and constant blowing smoke up the big boys arses and ordinary English players are just some of the elements that they do to help make it a proper cringe fest at times not that they aren't guilty of some of the same offences in the championship Ultimately we need to be in the PL if we want to keep our best players like Grealish and it's important for the health of the club but I really do hate what the PL has become like B6 says. You could head to any away game in the championship with a real belief you could get 3 points, let's face it 90% of the time heading to City, Chelsea etc it's a forgone conclusion. If you weren't up for it a team of bang average players like Millwall would walk all over you regardless of who you were. I think they should make the final champions league spot a play off like the championship to make it more interesting. Have 4 teams battle it out for the last spot.
  6. Good luck to all going, tried not to think about the match during the week but nerves really kicking in now. No matter what happens Deano and the team have done brilliantly well to get us here. All we can do is show up and play like we know we can. BIg players like Grealish and Abraham should thrive in this situation.
  7. That explanation makes sense and I know we have a set piece specialist working with the team, I still think it became too predictable though and not well executed.
  8. It was gruelling to watch at times and I thought we were very nervy again including Steer who looked uncomfortable but ended up being the hero with two fantastic saves. Job done is all that matters but the coaching team really need to sort out some of the decisions that were made by the team like Hourihane taking a free that was more suited to Grealish, Abraham taking a free out of nowhere, corners short nearly every single time despite our goal threat from set pieces when the ball is put in the box and repeatedly making the same mistake over and over again playing it carelessly out from the back when we were under serious pressure. Even with the red we kept trying long range shots or overdoing it around the box, the one ball that was whipped in from the side from Elmo nearly resulted in a goal. The fact that we are even in a final though is all down to Smith turning the fortunes of the team around so no matter he's done a brilliant job and the players have shown brilliant character throughout so well done to all. For the final I think this match showed Green is best used as an impact sub for now, always seems to cause problems when he comes on later in the game but can struggle a bit over a whole game.
  9. First half we weren't our usual selves. Subs were a big turning point, terrific strike from Hourihane. Baggies put a lot into that and to come away with nothing and Gayle now suspended is a huge blow. Still all to play for but we did what we had to today.
  10. Nice words Mike and congrats.
  11. Hard one to judge. It would be great to keep the good momentum going, I think a few small changes like starting Hourihane and Green might be a good idea but keep the spine of the team strong.
  12. Championship has been one of the best things to happen as a fan. After years of crap it was great to see us winning games, 10 in a row who would have thought it. Was only saying to some of the lads how uninterested I have become in the premier league since we've gone down. Championship is far more entertaining and passionate. Let's face it 90% of the time going to one of the big teams like City you know your not going to get anything. Having said all that if we want to keep watching players like Grealish in a Villa jersey we need to go up and there have been days like when we lost to Wigan where I thought this a right cesspit of a league.
  13. Another really solid win, well done Villa!
  14. Great spirit and character from the team to comeback from 1-0 down away from home and with 10 men. I have savaged this team for their like of character in the past but they have proved me wrong last night. Full credit to the team and Dean Smith, I thought he rotated the team well and is perfectly managing the likes of Whelan.
  15. Agree with this, I think giving Whelan a rest and bringing fresh legs into the team was so important against Forest and it paid off. Would also like to see Green keep his place. I'd also consider giving Kodjia a start again if nothing else just to freshen it up.
