  1. I think it would be wrong to write them all off. We've made these same mistakes before with really good players like Veretout, Adama and Gollini. Players take time to adjust and we have been here before. Gollini really rankles with me. He was very good young keeper and now an Italian international playing Champions League football but because he was a little young and nervy and not an instant roaring success we gave up on him rather then develop and improve him. If we're going to recruit players like this we need to give them time. Players like Konsa and Luiz could develop and mature into really good players. Mings has been mixed but if he had a solid partner beside him he would be much better. You could however say they were the wrong signings to make for a relegation battle and a few were just really bad business. I struggle to see why Targett escapes criticism while others take so much, good threat going forward but that's it. I want my defenders to be able to defend first and foremost.
  2. Absolutely, Bruce was hammered for performances like that, not necessarily wrongly. We've been naive at times this season but now we are surrendering any kind of battle before we take to the pitch expecting to soak up pressure something which isn't playing to this teams strength.
  3. Absolutely appalling yesterday. All I ask is that we scrap hard but yesterday was inexcusable. We all knew at 1-0 up that it was only a matter of time before we folded, how we took the lead was a miracle. Chelsea coasted through that game. I think Smith has been badly found out at this level coupled with really bad recruitment yet again.
  4. Was meant to be heading to this, just before Covid started to take off. I fancy our chances now more then I did back in March. Wednesday should stand to us and I'd like to think we will be a little sharper then Chelsea. Davis has to play again for me, worked so hard for the team and I thought we looked pretty toothless when he came off.
  5. Couldn't get into it all, apart from Villa I have zero interest in watching matches like this with no crowd. I thought Davis worked really hard and looked good. Nyland showed once again he is an accident waiting to happen.
  6. Money, money, money. I think it's absurd to try and finish this season. The season should be declared finished and planning put in place to try and deliver some kind of normality for next season. The only possible positive to come out of all this would be for the whole Sky/Premier League football money bubble to burst and some sort of a reset.
  7. We can only speculate on exactly what happened but it doesn't look good.
  8. This was criminal and how they failed to punish us for it I don't know, though Leicester were very poor themselves despite the scoreline. A struggling team like ours should never be using zonal marking, it seems a lose system based of it anyway as how could this pair up happen. A well drilled team who know what they're doing then perhaps zonal can work but not here, it's crazy. We should have gone back to basics a long time ago but our failure to adapt has cost us. Comparing us to everyone else around us I really can't see anything other then another embarrassing last place finish.
  9. Whether it be Norwich, Watford or whoever goes down with us at least they're fighting hard. Completely unacceptable that we're not showing up match after match. You know you're f*cked when your most experienced player does that but to be fair it could have been any number of others who's errors weren't punished. Apart from Grealish and Samatta every Villa player was an accident waiting to happen. Grealish looks tired and like the strain of carrying the team has finally caught up with him. Not acceptable tonight, the way I'm feeling now I'd give Terry a shot. Going down with no fight isn't good enough, the way we're going Norwich will finish ahead of us.
  10. I feel it's down to how poor our own wingers and fullbacks are and Smith's insistence on playing with wingers who just aren't up the standard required. I'd love to see us try a basic 4-4-2 with Davis and Samatta upfront. I also really hope Smith doesn't make a habit of taking Samatta off, outside of Grealish he's our only goal threat so leave him on. In my opinion he has badly misjudged playing too many new players who weren't up the pace of the premier league. In no way are they the answer long term but I'd honestly have gone with experienced players like Elmo and Taylor with a back to basics formation, Smith's insistence on trying to be something we weren't may ultimately be our downfall.
  11. Proud of the effort and commitment shown in the cup but all for nothing if we don't show up here and make the same mistakes we have all season.
  12. Not much more I can add but always felt it was a terrible mistake not to go for Gary Cahill who was available and experienced and equally stupid to allow Chester leave. On the positive side Samatta looks twice the player Wesley is though I was baffled as to why he was taken off when he didn't appear to be tired.
  13. Brilliant night! Like Dorset says early days to judge Samatta. Looked a bit nervous which is understandable, a goal early in his Villa career could really set him off you feel. I thought Davis was really excellent when he came in, serious player in there though you worry about him staying fit.
  14. Passion, commitment and battle in abundance against a street wise and form Watford side. We really deserved that tonight and it has to be said Reina has made a huge difference. Players like Nakamba really stepped up tonight. Hopefully the Smith out nonsense can stop for another little bit. Crowd brilliant again.
