Still can't get over how good a performance this was. Beating a strong Boro team under Puils away like that was a big statement as has been mentioned. The football played in the first half was as good as I've seen from a Villa team. Not since O'Neill have I actually really enjoyed watching us play. Long may it last, still problems at the back and work to be done but the team are showing they have more then enough quality to challenge.

What the feck was that, madness. Not sure what to say other then Nyland will never be good enough.

Haha real shame he's out but Chester available is big. Most be showing it but I prefer to stay at home and shout in my own surroundings, lots of Villa but not a huge amount of them. I do remember getting into a spat with one on of them on a Monday when I was in school years ago but that would be the heighth of it lol

McGinn is out. Whelan is in, no bad thing for this match. O'Hare and Lansbury on bench.

Into these f*ckers, good luck to all attending. Form and previous record goes out the window. They'd love nothing better then to stop us and I'm sure they'll do everything possible, Grealish needs protection and I hope the referee is strong. Aside from the importance of the game we need to keep our good form going.

No denying the lack of quality but the North passed us off the park with lesser quality players overall and deserved to win. O'Neill is a relic of the game who has not only sucked the life out of them with his Brian Clough methods but is acting like a man who has lost the plot. Stubborn b*stard too, common Northern trait lol

It's because Martin O'Neill is a cave man in footballing terms comparable with Steve Bruce. Bitter, bitter man too.

    Aston Villa 2-0 Bolton

Can't agree with that boring comment at all! Excellent victory and much deserved for our recent efforts. We played really well in parts and clear signs of improvement under Smith in a very short space of time even if still a little raw and not without mistakes. Creating chances, passing the ball, pressing for the ball back all alien concepts in recent times and great to see. Great to see Chester looking more confident and assured. Tuanzebe very good alongside him again. Keeping a clean sheet on top of the victory a huge plus but the keeper situation is still critical and has to be sorted in January. Grealish being used much more effectively tonight and looked like he really enjoyed his football, a great player to watch.

Very true, one of the first defeats you could genuinely take some positives from. I thought we played well and tried to pass the ball in the first half, it wasn't without errors but it will take time. A little unlucky with the shot hitting the post and the injuries which really didn't help. I'm not sure if Nyland will ever be the answer and we don't have a whole season of errors to cater for before he settles but much like the defence there is not much that can be done until January. I hate going back to it but Bruce really did shaft us with the defence and keeper situation, his loan signings don't look very encouraging either. Really disappointed with Chester this season, looks a shadow of the player without Terry. The chaos around him with keepers and Jedinak hasn't helped though.

Have a feeling we might put in a big performance tonight, a point wouldn't be bad though.

Great to see, over to the players now.

McCormack is probably one of the only things I could side with Bruce on. Anytime he did play for us he looked unfit, overweight and uninterested. I'm open to all having a fresh start though and I hope Hogan has something to offer under smith.

Take nothing for granted after the last few seasons but really excited to see what he can do. Tactically organised and better football would be great. Terry should have real influence with the players and can hopefully tighten up our defence. It will take time to turn us around and repair some of the recent damage Bruce caused. Will be interesting to see if players like Hogan or Lansbury could have something to offer. If Hogan is to be believed tactical instruction amounted to nothing more then "work hard" under the previous regime. Onwards and upwards, UTV!
