  1. What a great win today, delighted for Smith. It all came together so well and fair play to Wesley making a lot of us eat our words with a superb display, that's the hunger, finishing and hold up play we want to see. I also think Hourihane deserves a special mention, the team has improved greatly and looks much more balanced since his return. Goal, assist and won a peno today, he always comes up with big moments that win games yet some Villa fans moan about him "not dictating". It also seems to have free'd Grealish up, delighted to see him score too and he's such a wonderful player to watch. Targett has also made a big difference, hopefully he can stay injury free and continue to progress.
  2. Delighted with this win and even if it's only the league cup will do us good.
  3. Agree with what has already been said, embarrassing against a p*ss poor Arsenal side. Players on the pitch and Smith have to take huge personal blame for this one. We could all see it coming with how deep we went, we invited them on and even had the chance to learn our lesson after we got back to 2-1. El Ghazi was a disaster again, the Elmo sub invited pressure on and encouraged Arsenal. Hourihane should have been brought on very early in the second half for some calm and composure in midfield. The switching of a key midfield starting position between Hourihane to Luiz to Nakamba is just crazy stuff at this level. Wesley regardless of his goal was terrible again today. We looked good when we got at them and they looked very shaky, we should have have finished them off and kept control of the ball better. Instead we panicked again and decided to try and hold out against 10 men. Make no mistake about it that's a shockingly bad Arsenal team, complete embarrassment to cave against them and the last 2 performances are relegation form. A long way to go, not calling for heads or anything daft but we really need to start learning lessons and not go so negative when we are winning, it doesn't suit us. Some of the players can get better too you would hope with more games.
  4. Very disappointing, we need to be winning matches like that if we're to stay up. The game was there for the taking but we played with fear and nervousness. No cutting edge upfront and Wesley isn't doing enough. I'm bewildered that Hourihane continues to be overlooked, would have been perfect to introduce in this game. Subs were far too late.
  5. Worst performance of the season but absolute robbery from Kevin Friend. He should be dropped immediately and Villa should make an official complaint. Really bitter pill to swallow, absolutely disgraceful decision from Friend but he'll be delighted that he was the centre of attention again.
  6. Despite many positives you could take from both games it's hard not to worry. Wesley upfront is very concerning so far but I feel it might come together for him. A goal could give him a great boost. Jota being next in line on the wing really worries me, he looked way out of his depth in his two cameos and not the bright player who did so well in pre-season. Some silly errors aside like Heaton at the weekend I feel our defence has been pretty solid and will come good. Heaton, Engles and Mings looks really solid. Going forward from midfield it just doesn't seem quite right yet and we need to address this pretty fast.
  7. The very pundit I was going to mention Freddy, clear disdain for us! I found the analysis of Villa in the Championship was far superior with the names mentioned above and Keith Andrews who was excellent.
  8. I think I'll have to follow suit Freddy. Not sure what they have against us!
  9. I always felt with all the changes we might endure a difficult start to the season. It's so important everyone sticks with the team even if we have another few tough days and I felt the fans were very good and got behind the team, it came across that way anyway apart from the few usual moaners in the stands JustRich mentions. Giving away such an early goal really was a killer and we looked rattled. The second goal was also a shocker to give away and we need to cut out these silly errors as you don't get away with them at this level. We played some good stuff and I couldn't fault the effort and commitment from the team, great goal from Luiz but we seemed to have run out of steam and never looked like getting a second goal. Wesley upfront is a concern so far and I know he's only a sub but Jota looks way out of his depth at this level, I was surprised to see him come on after the Spurs match. I couldn't fault the commitment and effort in either match but until we get our first points it's hard not to be a little concerned. Finally the ref had a shocker, how Billings wasn't sent off was mind boggling and even after checking it on VAR. I also forgot how sh*t match of the day was while we were down in the championship. The usual offering of lazy armchair analysis and terrible editing avoiding key points from the match like the BIllings incidents and some of our best chances like Grealish's curler that nearly went in. Really poor stuff from those involved in the programme.
  10. Sounds funny after conceding three goals but I thought Heaton, Mings and Engles looked really good especially given the first time they've all played together in a real match. Got away with a few mistakes but overall very encouraging at the back and Heaton could be the pick of our signings.
  11. Spurs really outclassed us. I think a lot of Villa fans were getting carried away with talk of mid table and comfortably avoiding relegation but equally we must remember we have a lot of new players bedding into the team and I was really encouraged by how threatening we looked on the break in the first half. Our attempts to keep hold of the ball at times was honestly just terrible in the second half, Grealish in particular was very sloppy dwelling on it a couple of times and costing us a goal. We got away with a lot of mistakes today that need to be cut out. The main thing is we learn from our mistakes and we need to stick with the team even if we do have another few tough days. Wesley will need to toughen up fast, was going down too easily looking for fouls. I have no doubt we will learn and improve on today.
  12. Making some of the loan signings permanent was essential and Smith knows Jota and Konsa from Brentford. While there is a certain risk with the other signings unlike the previous regime I trust the guys at the top know what they're doing. I'm glad we still have a spine of senior and career British based players like Mings, Grealish, McGinn, Chester, Hourihane and now Heaton. These guys have a huge role to play on and off the pitch with the new players.
  13. Buzzing for this, I feel we could do okay though having watched Norwich trounced I am a little bit more cautious now. I've heard Smith might favour last seasons midfield trio of Hourihane, McGinn and Grealish and I think this would be a sensible approach as this may come a little soon for Nakamba and Luiz.
  14. Agree with this. One of the strangest links and I hope nothing in it. He doesn't fit the profile given his age and value and his career is rather underwhelming . Even his goals stats are glossed over by penalties. This would fall under the category of spending for the sake of it.
  15. I can't see much else but I think Maupay would still be a good idea. Depth will be important but I hope one or two leave to get them off the wage bill. I hope some of the younger guys can be sent on loan and hopefully can still have a part to play going forward. Really excited by our business and I don't think we could argue any of it wasn't needed, I just hope everyone remains patient as it might take time to get things going with all the new players like when Smith originally came in. I think Heaton could be a huge signing, you wont get anywhere without a steady keeper and he's the only one in the squad who I would trust. Will make a huge difference.
