Stay safe and keep your distance everyone-------hope we all get through this dam awful period safely and can have a wopping big get together when the great game resumes once more----

Hi Ron, and welcome aboard, what you say is bang on, we commented only yesterday how much time Foden had time and time again during both halves, he was initially the cause of both goals and apparently was awarded MOM,,yes it happens every dam game--but who is to blame?? players?coaches? both??----but one thing for sure it needs addressing!!

I've just seen Villa lose a cup final and I'm happy with the result, never thought I'd hear myself say that but I was dreading this game. Losing now is water off a ducks back, but to be humiliated in a cup final is something I never want to see again.

I like this new never say die attitude!

Its my big worry but i read something today that made me realise that maybe I am being a little harsh. Its our first year back in the Premier League and if we average around 1 point a game, we should do enough to stay up. We have 22 points from 23 games so we are just below that at the moment. It would be nice to see us show the same fight and desire as the sides in and around us though.

Time to keep things steady, no major changes. We have the spine of a good team and good character as demonstrated. 4 or 5 good signings in the right areas and I think we will be fine next season. Smith deserves full support next season and Suso leaving would appear to be a nod the recruitment wasn't quite up to scratch like the glaring deficiency we were left with upfront. I think the break showed we shouldn't write some of these players off. Luiz and Konsa were much improved and a player like Wesley may still prove a good player. Big problems were addressed over the break, well done to Smith and co.

I agree Paul. As for DS being in charge next season I would give him till xmas and see where we are then.

Less than two years ago we were sat here discussing the possibility of bankruptcy, winding up orders and relegation to league 1 or worse. We all know the detail of what has happened in the months since, why we found ourselves promoted and barely able to field a team. The foundations are taking place for something that we can finally build a decent team on, no bomb squad, no ageing players that are no longer first choice drawing huge salaries, just a group of young players, rapidly assembled who will hopefully get better.

I agree Dimitri and have created the thread for Season 2020-2021. As the 2020-2021 Season is getting underway it makes sense to open it now. All remaining games for Season 2019-2020 are to be posted in this 2019-2020 thread, Scottish FA Cup Semi-Finals and Final and Rangers' Euro matches (at least one, anyway !).

Absolutely, Bruce was hammered for performances like that, not necessarily wrongly. We've been naive at times this season but now we are surrendering any kind of battle before we take to the pitch expecting to soak up pressure something which isn't playing to this teams strength.

today i built an outside woodworking bench, complete with a new vice, built a tomato planter, stained and varnished 2 patio tables, planted around a hundred plants and i ache like fuke, but not bad for a 76 year old eh?

So they are willing to put players at risk for money.....

I don't think it will effect E-Sports. I think you will benefit from this as more people are stuck in their homes craving some kind of sport. As i said, if it doesn't take off during these current hard times, I don't see it ever taking off. Now is the time to jump in my opinion.
  15. 1 point
Robbie, I think more and more people will still to rely on E-Sports during the current pandemic. Ultimately it will depend how much this effects the world to how effective this can be come moving forward. If it doesn't take off now, I can see it being forgotten about once normal sport resumes.
  16. 1 point
Yup, need the right manager in place. And no director of football.
  17. 1 point
The simple answer is sign the right manager.......that is central to any clubs success. and then sign the right players to meet that challenge, that means players who are familar with the " Dark Arts" too, not just champagne players. It really isn't that hard.....but its made hard if we follow the wrong path.
  18. 1 point
Exactly, he needs to concentrate on the now, not the youth team and a long term vision.

After watching that shower of shite at Leicester last night smith has lost the dressing room in my opinion. Even captain Jack looks like he’s signed for manure already and doesn’t want to spoil his future. p*ss poor tactics, no effort and time to go smith.
  20. 1 point
didnt you know? they are only allowed to play football on cup games, smithy needs to have something to brag about, he cannot brag about premier league football, he doesnt know how to play it,
  21. 1 point
We have tinkered with the system and line up, none of it has worked and it is now clear that players gelling or acclimatising to this league isn't the issue. There is no way Smith hasn't considered two up top, it is the one thing he hasn't tried. I just hope he has the balls to give it a go because we are going down if he doesn't do something different.
  22. 1 point
    Great minds😁

A spirited performance where I feel the players did exactly as I wanted. They gave their all and would have come off the pitch with no regrets. The officials couldn't say the same sadly. I was very proud of our performance yesterday and I clapped everyone of them when they went up to collect their runners up medal

w,,,A Good post, especially the point about Chris Wilder just look at the physicality in Sheffield,s midfield -case in point about ours not stopping opponents is Drinkwater how many times does he end up forlornly chasing back? It's not just him though Conor and Lansbury are the same! The championship is so so much different to the promised land of the premiership and what's acceptable in the former just simply aint good enough for the premiership --the summer recruitment policy was wrong ,whosever responsibility it was, dominating physical midfielders should have been tracked down and favourably with premiership experience. I really reckon that without Jack we would now be lying beneath Norwich.

Dearly beloved, let us pray. UTV
  28. 1 point
Agreed. They are very beatable if we cut out our errors and have a real good go.

We can win this. We need to graft as a team no Kane. There are not that good. Hard graft we can win
  30. 1 point
We have far to many midfielders not putting a shift in . We need wingers to track back and people to work and press Ball ds has to put this right or we will get relegated

Personally I think it's to late, we've missed the opportunity to change manager and allow a new guy to make a couple of additions to an awful squad. Nyland was mom in both legs against Leicester, his reward to be dropped for a guy who then gifted Bournemouth the killer second. DS keeps acknowledging we need to start from the off, not when it's the second half and we're 2-0 down. But has actually consistently failed to address this issue with his team. DS is constantly out thought by the opposition manager, how many occasions have we been up against 10 men and been unable to get a result. How often does he leave it to late to make a substitution, DS is not up to the job, unfortunately Purslow bottled it and now it's too late to change.

i wont comment on this game as i didnt see it, but from what i have heard its the same old same old, not learning from our mistakes, that the fault of the coach,

It is interesting to look at other clubs fan forums and see so many using the same complaint, that their club is panic buying shite. It leaves me even more convinced that the transfer window isn't a good idea. This mad january trolley dash isn't working. It's like somebody already emptied the meat fridges and by the time you race the trolley there, all that is left is mince.

Only one English team has either won or finished runner up in an English competition in every decade since the 1880's and that's Villa. What an incredible statistic

Samatta impressed me. On another day he would have scored a goal but he caused problems for Jonny Evans who is regarded as one of the best defenders in the league. I can't believe we are at Wembley and although im not confident, we have nothing to lose and everything is possible in a Cup final.
  36. 1 point
Such a shame he didn’t get on the end of that ball.
  37. 1 point
i dont really care about the cup, more concerned about staying up, this is where the concentration should be, winning a cup or even going to wembly will not move us on, and especially if we get injuries.

Welcome to the forum Rocky. Fully agree with your post...I hate sacking managers, it does take time and I also have major doubts about Dean's suitability but really hope he proves us wrong.
  39. 1 point
I am not totally sold on Dean as manager, nice guy, but maybe a bit affable for me.....but he needs more time, However, I think 4-3-3 with our squad has been naive, 3-4-3 looks a bit better. However, I am not in favour of changing managers too often either, some sort of momentum needs to build, relationships need to gel and stability cannot be under estimated....I do hope he makes it. New players coming in are bound to help, if we sign the right ones.....Pepe Reina was an inspired signing IMO....and fingers crossed on Samatta. I think we need a powerful midfielder too, to help give us domination in the middle.

i just hope whoever we buy is an improvement on some of the so called players that we have

What a massive win, well done, good spirit shown to come back from a goal down.
  42. 1 point
I don't think I've ever been so pissed off with the signing of a player as I am with the signing of Drinkwater. In the last 12 months he's been nicked more times by the police than he's been picked by his manager.

i see wesley did his favorite trick again, missed a sitter from 2 yards out, and i say again, elmanky was a waste of space, we need to spend again at the next window, and clear some of this lot out, for decent premiership players, what we have is fairly good championship players,

wolves have been getting above their station recently I feel, good to see them back in their box
  46. 1 point
I personally don't get the hype in some players. I am not the biggest fan of the likes of French and Spanish leagues. So many players have come to England or even Germany and have failed to be successful but smash it in those leagues. Its partly why Ronaldo will always be above Messi for me.
  47. 1 point
The simple way to define historic would be trophies won but if you look at how the premier league has made winning trophies almost a certainty for some for much of its 26 years I'm not convinced that can be the only measure. I don't deny my bias but if you go back to 1993 I think only Liverpool had won more than Aston Villa and although a few rich clubs have surpassed us during the era of money being king none of them were founder members of the football league, which is why Accrington Stanley and Notts County are historic clubs and Birmingham City are not. I doubt I need remind anyone on here that only one club in world football can claim to be the club that started the 1st football league, that's pretty damned historic. There was a time we could claim to be the biggest club on the planet and although we've been overtaken by a few for me there are 5 clubs that stand head and shoulders above the rest in terms of place in history....Aston Villa, Everton, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd.
