a few lessons to be had---Jack lad this aint the Championship players are much sharper quicker and can disposess easily without fouling---you cannot linger on the ball in or close to our box-- Wesley needs to tuff up----collapses far far too easily---subs were ineffective Kodj caught dwelling too and Jota looked lost? but lets not forget Spurs were the 2nd best team in Europe last season-- 2 home games now and hopefully chance to get back to winning ways-- VTID--

19/06/2019 : Excellent news today regarding John Terry. The extension to 2021 shows ongoing commitment by JT and by AVFC too. This is the sensible way to manage the Club.

I think a lot of deals are all depending on holidays. Agents can only do so much without the players.

Back. Back in the premiership at last. A great club and we should never have gone down in the first place. Been a painful time with one thing and another. Now we come back stronger and harder. Today I saw passion and strength we are the Brummie lions after all. Next season is where we belong let's roar our intent. Come on the Villa cone on. Let's make the claret and blue to be once again a force to fear. The greatest teams will shake in their boots.

Just been reminiscing, 37 years ago this very minute I'd have been an hour into the 60 hour session that was Rotterdam, we got back into Brum about the same time the final whistle will go on Monday....here's to another Villa victory though I could do without it being quite so nervy at the end. Have a great day all you that are going, if the semi is anything to go by me and my kids will be part of a large contingent of Villans lifting the roof off the George Tapps here in Bournemouth. UTV

When we had 10 games remaining I predicted that the teams we'd most likely trip up against were Wednesday, Rotherham and Millwall. As Dorset says, they've had some decent results lately. Plus they're fighting for survival. Will be a lot tougher than some are predicting methinks. The one we need to desperately win is Bristol.

The mind boggles. Somebody may correct me here but aren't the UK the fifth biggest economy in the world? Ok some corporate firms may build there cars elsewhere and it may drop slightly but why the f*ck should we pay into a pot to sort other countries out before our own. Look at the struggles of the NHS etc and towns and cities around the country that have nothing in the way of jobs.

02/04/2019 : The majority of Labour and many Tory MPs are anti-Brexit, despite standing for election in 2017 on manifestos that stated they would implement the result of the 2016 Referendum. All the manouverings in Parliament reflect their inability to agree on an alternative to remaining in the EU and none of these alternatives are what they truly believe in anyway. The only thing they do agree on is blocking a 'No Deal' Brexit. No Deal is the legal default the MPs have themselves set and which they are trying to avoid. If the EU refuses a further extension to Article 50, understandable if it will only give time for more dithering, this will leave the MPs staring at the 'cliff edge' of No Deal. In that situation I reckon the Government will Revoke Article 50, as this will be the only option left in their control. There are strategic benefits to this, namely, we retain the Rebate, our Opt-outs from the Euro and Schengen and retain our representation in Brussels. It will mean no Brexit for now, but not forever.

With what Smith has said in the mail over the last couple of days anyone who does want 4 4 2 can forget it. I have no clue why but I think we will win 1 0 today. I think we'll take the lead early on for some reason. I'm just not happy that the season feels over in February. Would also love Hourihane to score a belter, I'm intrigued to see what his attitude and performance will be like today. Either way UTV.

f**cking hell lads. I understand the LB thing, i think anybody with even half a football brain knows we needed a LB. We don't know if Hause will be a donkey as he hasn't had a chance yet and Rufustfirefly i swear your a bluenose taking the p*ss. I respect we all have an opinion and as fans we should get to moan we pay our money following the club but you don't have anything good to say mate. For to long now villa have been that club that old premier league players see as a last payout. Smith and the club have said its a rebuild and they want younger players. That can only be a good thing and I've said it before and ill say it again, a large portion of villa fans are poisonous and fickle. I've worked all around the country and when you have fans from other cities noticing this its embarrassing. The last few years the club have been run into the ground by not just players and managers but the owners to. We nearly went down sh*t street in the summer with Xia. Nobody is to big to get relegated like we did and any club can fall. We are where we are right now and if we all got behind the team a bit more you never know. I don't mean any offence by any of this either but i'm sure we can all agree that VP right now is a library and toxic one of that, some of the sh*t i hear fans say are mad. Just let Smith rebuild and hopefully it pays off lads.

Maybe if our so called “amazing fan base” were more supportive during matches, players would feel more empowered and less terrified of making mistakes. It should be intimidating for the opponents, not our team. It’s not rocket surgery!

If Hull can hit the kind of form that takes them from the bottom of the table to competing for the play offs then we can hit the kind of form that takes us from competing for the play offs to getting into them, there is no hiding from the result or performance at Wigan and I'm hoping it might just be the rocket up the arse they all need.

The received wisdom when I was a kid was that it took at least 3 years for a manager to build "his" team, we haven't had a manager since MON who could field "his" team. With Pitarch in place now there should at least be some continuity so that if Smith ultimately does fail a new coach will be coming into a squad that was assembled with a vision, not some hotchpotch of a squad thrown together by the previous 3 or 4 managers. Six months ago administration was a real prospect and relegation seemed inevitable, now we are within a whisker of the play offs. Its been frustrating of late but after seeing us spend years getting our arse's kicked week in week out its not so bad, some patience is required.

I respect peoples opinions on it stu and we're all supporters who love the club. Fans will always be more important than any player or manager. I just can't see how Steve Bruces decisions to not get cover at left back and centre back as well as letting Elphick go on loan and other terrible decisions can fall on Smith. You could argue that he could dip into the u23 lads but the fans would moan if that doesn't work out. We've had loads of games over the festive period with a small squad. Jack's injury isn't smiths fault either and my god have we missed him. A lot of this has been bad luck. Over Jan and the summer transfer window window he will buy his players and get rid of what he doesn't need. I really can't see how he is partly to blame mate I really can't see it. I do think villa fans are poisonous sometimes. I've worked all over the country and even other fans from other cities say the same about us. We have a brilliant history but it is history, right now we are where we are. We ain't to good for it. We've been run terribly as a club by owners and other managers. Smith is the brains behind a new project and it will take time as purslow said.

i wondered how long it would take before some fans started to have a go at ds, ffs, this is not his team, he has not brought any players, he is still having to struggle with the crap he took over from the useless knunt sb left behind, give him a chance to do his own thing, then maybe you can judge him. you can train them, coach them, but you cant force them to do what you want them to do,, if you could there would no such thing as a good or a bad player. time will tell, but right now ds needs all the support from you that he can get.

Surprised there wasn't more rested, there has been a few bad games and performances now but to the lads who are going on about Smith f*ck me. This isn't his team. Yes he picks the team but most people agreed when he took the job this is a long term plan. To the lads saying he talks the talk and all that jazz. Stop with the poison man, he hasnt done to bad at all until we lost 2 important players in grealish and tuanzebe. You could even say taylor as well cos let's face it hutton at left back is far from working. Let him bring in his players and give him some time. Struggling to read some of these comments on twitter and stuff I really am starting to think some villa fans are cringe worthy.

I have to agree with the sentiment of a number on the posts here that the loan system should not form part of our future vision, unless the loan has a favourable option to buy such as the El Ghazi deal. This approach will always leave us in a transient state of constant rebuilding, never really having a settled side we can call our own. This season seems particularly fraught with the current fashion of recalling players, potentially providing us with a crisis mid-season, with the possibility of losing a striker who could easily score 30 goals for us this season. Personally I would like to see a clear route for our own academy players from the U23’s into the first team. Grealish has clearly demonstrated what can be achieved with patience and opportunity.

All I’ve heard for the last couple of years is how we’ve got the best attack, internationals all over the shop, deepest most experienced players, fortunes spent stealing other EFL teams best, come to us and they are shite!! Expensive, poorly assembled squad! Its frightening to see what pap SB and predecessors bought!! Yes agreed not DS team, but how with the most expensive team are we so f**cking poor?!! p*ss poor!! And DS is struggling to get a tune out of em?!?! WTF! Cos let’s face it,he is!! Tammy goes, who scores?,cos he hates Kodja! And Hogan ,hells bells!! As for elphick! f**cking hell, probably had one good game since signing! We all expect to be at least in the playoffs after last year and yet we are being outplayed by bargain basement teams and scrapping draws against them and frankly for our club, that should just NOT be happening!! It’s terrible to watch, just terrible!

I don't view the past with rose tinted specs. He did truly care about the club, there was never any doubt about that, but if it were up to him we would still be paddling in our own p*ss in ancient toilets. Sometimes he loved it too much, which made him incapable of not interfering with playing matters, which cost us several managers. He also hired several terrible managers (Turner, McNeil, Venglos). He did save the club from ruin, no doubt about it. His predecessors were not exactly honest, and left quite a mess. The Bendalls loathed him, which raises him in my estimation (I once worked for the two sons). I am old enough to remember the days of hearing the attendance at the end of the game over the p.a. and the groans of seasoned supporters who, with years of experience, could tell by looking that the crowd was bigger than the club were claiming. The 'Doug Ellis Alternative Accounting System' as my mate referred to it. This was back in the days of cash on the gate. I have to say that I do prefer his kind of old school, rags to riches, local boy done good type chairmen to some of the city traders, oligarchs, arms dealers and Ernst Blofeld types that buy clubs nowadays. Those old cigar smoking, Rolls Royce driving bosses may have often been dodgy spivs and shifty operators, but they were our rogues, local blokes who actually supported the clubs they owned. For all their faults, the Doug Ellises of the football world represented a more innocent time in the game.

Regarding the 'dream team' of Thierry Henry and John Terry, I question if Henry can be regarded as inexperienced. Remember he is currently No2 to Martinez in Belgium and Belgium acquitted themselves well in the World Cup. They finished 3rd and played with style, which I would attribute to both Martinez and Henry. As to 'could it cost us', that is the risk with any new manager. How many folks thought David Moyes would flop at Man United after being appointed on the recommendation of Sir Alex Ferguson ?

He's done well at Brentford, be a bit different here but you could find reasons for not appointing most managers. The defence is such a mess I'd worry that any new manager will be dodging cabbages before he has chance to right it.

Bristol City fan here with the local info for Friday week The bulk of the holiday season has been and gone now BUT the M5 from south of cheltenham can still get snarled up. So set out early if you can Coming by road use M4/M5 southbound to junction 18(Avonmouth) then follow signs A4 Bristol airport It looks the long way round but its quicker. Not a good idea to use M4/M32 YOU WILL GET LOST and its friday night rush hours Parking is normally in the streets around the area as long as you are there by 16:30pm please don't block drive ways or park on corners. Parking tickets were handed out for our last match against Sheffield United. Looks like train travel is NOT an option, unless your coming in from one of the stations in the Bristol areaIf you do use the train from where ever, please get the tickets issued to Parson Street as its push's up the footfall at the station although it is the same price as Bristol Temple meads Till Ashton gate halt comes on line. When you approach the ground from the winterstoke road direction I suggest you walk past wickes using the pavement as the concourse area behind the big new stand gets very congested with bodies UNLESS YOU WANT TO SEE THE JOHN ATYEO STATUE Split train tickets are available to Bristol from the London area as well as from Swansea/Cardiff area and group save is also availble on GWR trains, If there are at least three of you get a taxi from the Bristol Temple meads to the ground Make sure the taxi driver drops you in the Ashton Road end as it a very long walk round from the other end Casualty and Holby City were filmed in the City don't ask me about either of the programmes cos I think their both rubbish The young ones was also filmed in the BS7 area of the City(actually its Bishopston) Finally the block of flats on the left behind the dolman stand side as you are in the away end is "the" block of flats in "fools and horses" If your into your "STREET ART" there is loads to see in the Ashton area as we have just celebrated the upfest in BS3 Bring your camera and turn up early if you want to take any photo's Pubs possibly best one are in the cumberland road basin area novia scotia pump house and the cottage. Leave your car there and walk to the ground Buy your match day programme before you enter the away end. BBC Radio station is radio Bristol which has frequencies and 94:9 and DAB and 95:5. In 2017/18 3,106 aston villa fans visited Ashton Gateand the season before 2,551 villa fans made the trip I see the allocation this season is 2,700 and I don't think this will be changed A final reminder that there has been no pay on the day for any away fans this season or last season I don't think that will be changed,so please buy your tickets in advance Can you please circulate to other aston villa forums and message boards as well as other aston villa followers If you want any further local info, don't be afraid to ask.

Rotherham will be cock a hoop after their fine win over Derby, we must start winning the home games, and pick up a bit of momentum--forget a careful slow defensive approach-- lets concern ourselves not with fearing what they could do to us--but with imposing ourselves on them,i,d go with.--- Nyland Hutton Chester Axel Taylor Hourihane McGinn El Ghazi Jack Kodjia Abraham and bring Bolasie on for the final 35 minutes to run em ragged. Come On You Lions----------------- VTID

Relying on individual brilliance, our only tactic. No other championship team can bring on Bolasie, Kodjia and Hourihane off the bench, it's ridiculous. Not good enough again.
