ASTON VILLA:

Some of my family is originally from the midlands region (back in the early days), and my Uncle is a passionate fan which has had a big influence on me. Not many people in Australia followed the English leagues when I was growing up as a lad (so no-one to talk to about Villa), but I had a good mate that was a very passionate football fan (pity he is a Tottenham supporter) and he made it a lot more fun to follow, as we use to have some great arguments and discussions (still do!!).

HOME MATCH DAYS :

The noise and the sound of Villa chants going around the ground. Aston Villa are lucky to have one of the best home ground (and away) support. Also just the sight of the Holte End, it is an amazing stand.

AWAY GROUND :

Well this is very limiting being from Australia as I've only ever seen them at one away ground and that was Hindmarsh Stadium, Adelaide in the 2005 International Soccer Challenge Cup. Great atmosphere and Villa won the final!!!

CHANT/SONG:

The Bells Are Ringing... or Stand up if you love Villa.

BEST GAME:

Coca Cola Cup Semi Final (2nd leg) against Tranmere Rovers in 1994 (on TV unfortunately). The scene when the final whistle went was amazing then winning 5–4 on penalties. Also meant Villa at Wembley in a Cup Final (winning against Man United)! The recent Chelsea draw was a bit of a cracker as well.

PLAYER:

Paul McGrath (Villa Hall of Fame, PFA Player of the Year award in 1993 and Football League 100 Legends). “GOD” what a legend. I remember watching him as a young lad and wanting to be just like him.

THE FANS :

They are very friendly to each other, just like a big family. Villa fans aren't stuck up like many of the other big clubs. The away support that Villa fans provide the team is probably the best in the league and this is largely envied by the rest of the country.

IF THERES NO VILLA :

Well I already support Adelaide United, but if I had to choose another English team I would support Leeds United (as some of my family support them). Maybe not so much now, but it was great when they had the Aussies (Kewell and Viduka). This is a difficult question though as I think every Villa fan would agree that they could never support another team. I'd just stop watching English football. “Keep the lions flag flying high as Aston Villa will never die”.

CLUB OR COUNTRY :

If I was English I would say club over country, but being from Australia I am very passionate about my country, so country comes first. Even though Villa could probably beat our Socceroos.

EVERYONE SHOULD LOVE VILLA :

They are founding members of the football league, best midlands club, they are one of the oldest and most successful football clubs in England, winning the First Division Championship seven times, the FA Cup seven times and the European Cup in 1982 (one of 4 other English clubs). Enough said!
