Anticipation is sky high!

The first match after an international break is always highly anticipated as the Premier League withdrawal symptoms are running high. The Lions are back in action today as we welcome Spurs to Villa Park.  What a way to start off again! Spurs boast a great footballing side that is always a danger in front of goal, creating the possibility of an end-to-end attacking match where either team could get all three points.

Benteke could possibly make his return to the starting XI after his injury, which is a huge bonus for Villa as he always gives us that little bit extra up front. In my article last week, I showed my concern that the international break could disturb our consistent form over the last three games but I am sure that, with the crowd behind them, the boys in claret and blue can perform and give Spurs a real test.

I think that Lambert needs to opt for an offensive set up for today’s game that can cause danger up front, as well as press Spurs in order to make sure that their players do not have much time on the ball. They have some very creative players, who, with time, can produce some great football. The key is definitely to press them to regain the ball and then press forward. The only issue with this tactic could be the pace most of Spurs’ team has. As a result, we could risk getting caught on the break.

A key player to watch out for this week is Andros Townsend. He had an incredible international break, being one of the best players for England over the two games. I am slightly worried that he could cause our right back Luna some serious problems and it could be a key area of the pitch that Spurs will use to get at our defence.

After a 4-0 hammering in the Capital One cup a few weeks back, does Villa have a different team just a few weeks on?

Yes! Over the last three games, we have shown a real desire to win matches as well as keeping things tight at the back, resulting in two clean sheets. Spurs will get a major shock when they play at Villa Park today, as we will be a lot harder to break down. It’s been a long awaited match but it’s finally here and the atmosphere is likely to be electric as Villa fans get behind the team. Hopefully we can get all three points and all the anticipation will have been worth it.

I’d love to hear your score predictions and how you believe Lambert should go about the game today? So comment below!

  1. As a spurs fan, I would rather watch villa these days. Your team is more exciting than ours under AVB.
I see a villa win today and a mid table finish for spurs.
