It has been exactly 1 year since we learnt that club captain Stiliyan Petrov had been diagnosed with acute leukaemia.
The Bulgarian is currently in remission after his long battle with the disease and I fully expect the capacity crowd at tomorrow’s fixture with Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool to show their support bigger and louder than ever before on the 19th minute.
There is some talk that the midfielder who has played for Villa over 200 times will be offered a coaching role with the club once he has fully recovered. It is unclear if this is something that would interest Stiliyan but I believe it is a fantastic gesture by both Paul Lambert and the club as a whole.
Sometimes in life you realise that there is much more to life than football.
I dont need to say much more, other that Stiliyan Petrov – the Aston Villa family are, and will always be, fully with you.
