Ok then, who can remember when Aston Villa last did the double over Liverpool?  I believe it was in the 1992/93 season when we beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield and then 4-1 at home. Can we do it again? Maybe, but it very much depends on which Liverpool team turns up. It was claimed that Liverpool had turned a corner under Rodgers and the results had seemed to back that up. However, he made the fatal mistake of broadcasting his beliefs, very much like the Villa board after the Liverpool game. And what happened?  A pretty rubbish set of results followed. Hopefully, we have learnt from that sort of mistake and we can grind out a result against Liverpool.

However, what worries me is that our previous result has just made them angry and a wounded Liverpool is a very dangerous creature indeed! I would like to think we could get a 2-1 result out of them, but I feel that we would need to attack from the off and get them on to the back foot as they have the capacity to be as error-strewn as ourselves.

As we move into the last few games of the season, we begin to hear more and more rumours about players leaving. Benteke and Weimann have been linked to every man and their dog and really we can’t speculate until we know the outcome of our season. In the same vein, we can’t speculate too much about the players coming in as our budget will greatly depend on which division we are in. All the same, I am feeling more and more confident that we will be staying up, so let’s look at some of those rumours.

Lescott. – Yes, yes, yes! He is exactly the experienced player that we need. Get rid of Ireland, free up the wages and get him into the heart of our defense.

Sinclair – Again, I think he would a great signing for us as he is industrious and tenacious. I think he very much a Lambert type of player.

Hooper. – Ex-Scunthorpe player (my dad’s team) and he too is hard-working. He has a great eye for goal and has scored at every level he has played at. I always thought he might make a late charge for an England call up and would be delighted if we got him.

I know there are other players on the horizon but these three would be great additions to the team and I reckon it would probably cost us 16 million for all three.

  1. Best we can hope for is a draw out of the Liverpool game sorry to sound negative but I think they will be well up for this.Anyway fingers crossed we get something.

  2. Liverpool should not be feared they have declined over the years nearly as much as Villa. I think they are very beatable and it well come down to who wants it more will still have something to play for this season what do Liverpool have you might say Europa League but are they any better going to finish ahead of Everton or Arsenal I don’t think so as for summer signings we will already have 2 in by end of April with G Gardner and Albrighton returning but would like to see something like this.

M Richards – younger than Lescott can’t keep going for over 30’s on high wages let carry on building for future

T Ince – will would give him a game every week not so sure he would get one at Liverpool or Spurs

J Rhodes – Has scored goals everywhere he has been would act as good replacement super sub for when bent goes

ps got to keep Benteke and Andi and add this.
